As an old soldier who had handled guns for decades, the Colonel had always believed that the gun in his hand was his best companion. Compared to a pistol, Throwing Knives were like children's toys—whether in lethality, accuracy, or sustained firepower, they were completely incomparable.
"Colonel, I don't see it that way." Chen Mo shook his head, disagreeing with the Colonel. "Used properly, Throwing Knives are no weaker than pistols."
Seeing that Chen Mo was still unconvinced, Colonel Phillips's stubborn streak flared up.
"Fine! Since that's the case, let's have a contest!"
"Let's see whether your Throwing Knives are better, or my pistol is stronger!"
Considering himself a sharpshooter, Colonel Phillips intended to prove with facts that he was right and completely dispel Chen Mo's unrealistic notions.
Looking at the supremely confident Colonel, Chen Mo gave a proud smile. Since you're asking for a beating, I won't hold back.
Shooting range.
Mixed-target area.
The two men stood at their respective firing positions. In front of each of them were steel targets placed at distances of thirty, fifty, and eighty meters.
Agent Carter, who had been temporarily dragged in as the referee, stood to one side and watched the two men stubbornly competing with a helpless expression.
The Colonel gripped his pistol with both hands, feet spread apart, chest tucked and shoulders relaxed. His arms extended straight out at shoulder level, his gaze locked firmly on the bullseye through the sights—a textbook two-handed frontal shooting stance.
Chen Mo, meanwhile, stood seemingly casually, his fingers resting against the Throwing Knives at his waist, ready to draw one at any moment.
"Begin!"
At Agent Carter's command, Chen Mo swiftly drew a knife and snapped his arm forward, sending it flying toward the target.
The Throwing Knife cut through the air in a straight silver streak and struck the bullseye dead center.
Screech!
A sound of tearing steel rang out. The three-millimeter-thick steel plate was instantly ripped open by the blade, and half the knife sank through it, wedged firmly into the steel.
At the same time, the Colonel's gun fired. A puff of smoke rose from the muzzle as the bullet shot from the chamber, spinning at high speed toward the target.
With a clang, the bullet struck the bullseye, denting the steel plate but failing to penetrate it.
Bang! Bang! Bang!...
Neither man stopped. They quickly completed five shots at each target, for a total of fifteen shots.
After finishing, the two remained where they were, quietly awaiting Carter's inspection results.
Carter checked the thirty-meter targets first. On Chen Mo's target, five Throwing Knives had pierced through the steel plate and were neatly embedded in the bullseye.
Carter could not help glancing at Chen Mo, who stood in the distance looking relaxed. The tremendous power Chen Mo had displayed with Throwing Knives sent a chill through her.
Composing herself, Carter inspected the Colonel's target and announced loudly.
"Thirty-meter target!"
"Chen Mo, fifty points!"
"Colonel, fifty points!"
Neither was surprised by the result. Though he had spoken with contempt, the Colonel knew that since Chen Mo had dared accept the challenge, he must have possessed some skill. Chen Mo's score was not the important part; what mattered was what came next.
Carter moved forward to the fifty-meter target area. Driven by curiosity, she checked Chen Mo's target first.
The Throwing Knives had still pierced through the steel plate, all striking the bullseye. However, as the distance increased, their power had decreased somewhat. The twenty-five-centimeter-long knives had only penetrated around ten centimeters, but that was still more than enough to easily pierce a human body.
"Fifty-meter target!"
"Chen Mo, fifty points!"
"Colonel, fifty points!"
Hearing that, Colonel Phillips secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, he had performed well today, or he would have embarrassed himself. At this distance, even he did not always score full marks.
At the same time, the Colonel could not help looking at Chen Mo. He was secretly astonished that the Throwing Knives Chen Mo threw by hand could accurately strike the bullseye from fifty meters away. That level of precision was enough to make him marvel. He also began looking forward to the eighty-meter results, wondering what the final outcome would be.
Carter had now reached the eighty-meter target. The five Throwing Knives in the bullseye clearly told her Chen Mo's score. The six centimeters of blade protruding from the back after piercing through the steel plate also showed that, even at eighty meters, the Throwing Knives could still easily kill!
The Colonel's target, on the other hand, only bore five shallow, scattered dents.
Astonished by Chen Mo's extraordinary knife-throwing skill, Carter turned and shouted.
"Eighty-meter target!"
"Chen Mo, fifty points!"
"Colonel, thirty-two points!"
Upon hearing Chen Mo's score, the Colonel could no longer remain calm.
"What?"
"How is that possible?"
From eighty meters away, Throwing Knives thrown by hand had actually all hit the target. Colonel Phillips looked at Chen Mo as though he were a monster.
"Colonel, I think you should come see for yourself," Carter said, clearly not intending to let him off so easily.
"What else is there to see? Isn't it enough that I admit defeat?" Having been crushed in the field he excelled at most, and by a method he had looked down upon, the Colonel could not help blushing.
Seeing Carter still standing beside the target, staring at him with a serious expression, the Colonel had no choice but to walk over.
"Do you want me to see just how badly I lost?" the Colonel mocked himself as he walked.
But as he drew closer, he saw the Throwing Knives embedded in the target clearly, and his expression immediately changed.
The Colonel had never imagined that the Throwing Knives in Chen Mo's hands could possess such tremendous power. Forget pistols—even compared to rifles, they were not much inferior.
The result of the contest was obvious. The Colonel, armed with a pistol, had been utterly crushed by Chen Mo's Throwing Knives. In terms of power, range, accuracy, and sustained capability, Chen Mo's Throwing Knives were far superior to the M1911 in the Colonel's hand. Although the knives were slightly slower to fire than a pistol, whenever the Colonel changed magazines, Chen Mo would instantly overtake him again. Even his only advantage vanished.
At the thirty-meter, fifty-meter, and eighty-meter targets, he had been completely defeated. The Colonel had no choice but to admit that in Chen Mo's hands, Throwing Knives were no weaker than guns.
This was actually only natural. With training, an ordinary person could use Throwing Knives to injure someone within ten meters. With Chen Mo's strength and speed, which surpassed ordinary people several times over, the destructive force he could unleash was undoubtedly terrifying.
The Colonel could not help sighing. Even the most inconspicuous object could unleash unimaginable power in Chen Mo's hands, backed by such immense strength.
But the stubborn Colonel was still unwilling to accept defeat. He cast an unhappy glance at the Throwing Knives stuck in the target and said indignantly.
"Kid, I admit I underestimated your Throwing Knives earlier."
"But how many of those things can you carry in a fight?"
"Ten? Or twenty?"
"In real combat, you still have to rely on guns!"
After going around in circles, the Colonel finally revealed his true purpose.
"Kid, do you dare compete with me using pistols?"
After saying that, the Colonel looked at Chen Mo provocatively.
Carter, standing nearby, covered her forehead speechlessly.
Chen Mo looked at the sulking Colonel before him and could not help finding it amusing. The man insisted on asking for another beating. What else could he do? Of course, he would indulge him.
"I haven't practiced shooting for very long," Chen Mo said slowly.
The Colonel thought he was making excuses because he did not want to compete. He was just about to mock him and force him to accept the challenge when Chen Mo's next words nearly enraged him to death.
"But my marksmanship should be unmatched."
