This was a narrow valley between two mountains, littered with rocks of all sizes. Tanks and vehicles could not pass through at all, and even infantry would have their marching speed greatly reduced.
No wonder they had left such an obvious gap in their defensive line. As long as they sealed off both mountainsides with heavy artillery and machine guns, a single company of soldiers would be enough to hold this place securely. No one would be able to get through.
And that was indeed what they had done. Chen Mo could clearly see two heavy artillery pieces deployed atop each mountain, their barrels aimed south toward the Allied positions, guarding against the enemy sending armored forces to provide fire support for attacking infantry.
They would never have imagined that someone would launch an attack on them from behind, from the direction of their own rear headquarters.
Even so, they could still use the terrain to easily block the road below with rifles and machine guns. If they held out for a while against Chen Mo's limited tank firepower, then turned their guns around, the prisoners would face a devastating attack.
A direct assault would result in terrible casualties, and they might not even succeed in breaking through.
But for Chen Mo, who often ventured alone deep into the HYDRA base and wiped out all its heavy firepower by himself, this was far too easy.
To avoid being discovered by the German forces, Chen Mo had the main group conceal themselves at a distance while he and Steve quietly approached.
The two split up at the foot of the mountain, each sneaking toward a position on one of the peaks. The steep cliffs were as easy to traverse as level ground for them, and before long, they had slipped into
