The Last Person
The blaring alarm not only marked the start of the battle, but also shattered the peace on the twelfth floor.
Most of the residents on this floor had already gone to sleep. They were jolted awake, and once they realized there was a fire, many rushed out of their rooms without even getting properly dressed. But the sight in the corridor left them completely dumbfounded. Two groups of people who had appeared from nowhere were drawing guns and shooting at each other.
Bullets spun through the corridor amid billowing smoke, leaving people unsure whether they should keep running outside or retreat back into their rooms.
The two members of the Special Action Team had clearly come prepared. Before Zero and the others arrived, they had already shoved tables, refrigerators, and other things to the doorway as cover. They hid behind them, and after initially exposing more of their bodies, they had pulled back, keeping crucial areas like their control centers shielded behind the barricades.
Although the Emergency Response Squad held the advantage in marksmanship and firepower, they still could not take down their opponents anytime soon.
Even so, Zero believed it was only a matter of time before his side won this battle. He was not worried about the two opponents in front of him. What concerned him more was Zhang Heng, who had yet to show himself, and the last member of the Special Action Team.
If nothing unexpected happened, the goods were on the latter. Otherwise, there was no explanation for why his two teammates had already fallen into a bitter fight while he still had not appeared. But Zero did not believe the man could remain so composed forever.
The fire was growing fiercer by the moment, and many people had begun coughing from
