Cheng Si Han fell silent for an especially long time. Her body swayed slightly with the subway car as the billboards outside flashed past, like scene after scene of silent film.

"If I give up on saving my adoptive father, will I be able to see Loki and regain my abilities?"

"Of course," Beta said. "Although the Game Organizing Committee stipulates that the gods may only choose one agent, you know Teacher. He never takes those rules seriously."

"Fine. Then I'll give up on saving my adoptive father," Cheng Si Han said flatly.

"I knew you'd say that," Beta said with a grin. "Come with me." She rose from her seat, and just then the subway arrived at another station, the carriage doors opening again.

Beta got off, but instead of leading Cheng Si Han toward the exit or the elevators for transfers, she headed to the very end of the platform. After the subway pulled away, she jumped down onto the tracks while the staff were not looking and slipped into the tunnel beside them.

Cheng Si Han hesitated for a moment before jumping down after her.

Beta then skipped forward, not forgetting to remind Cheng Si Han behind her, "Watch your step."

Cheng Si Han snorted and quickly followed. Before they had gone far, they heard the rails beginning to tremble, the vibration growing louder and louder.

"I know." Beta smiled, but showed no intention of getting out of the way. Instead, she stood on one foot in the middle of the tracks and closed her eyes. About ten seconds later, a speeding train emerged from the darkness and swept past her body, stirring her hair.

The whole scene was thrilling but harmless.
