Chapter 1136: Potassium Iodide
The doctor was surprised by Pripyat Medical Center's lack of preparations for dealing with acute Radiation Sickness.
In particular, they could not find a high-range Radiation Measurement Instrument. That meant the players had no way of determining how many rads of radiation they had absorbed in the earlier explosion, much less calculating how much time they had left.
The good news, however, was that they found Potassium Iodide injections in the hospital.
"The best time for this stuff to work is before radiation exposure, but it can still have some effect afterward." The doctor put everyone, including himself, on an IV drip. With an IV bottle in each person's hand and hospital gowns on their bodies, they truly looked no different from patients now.
By the time they finished all that, the hospital had finally become busy. The wounded were continuously transported here from Chernobyl. Many had skin that had already turned dark brown, their whole bodies swollen. They moaned incessantly as they were carried out of the ambulances. Some became hysterical, shouting constantly in a manic state, but severe bouts of hiccups soon quieted them down.
Among them, Zhang Heng and the others spotted a familiar face—the man who had returned to the reactor earlier and stood on the balcony.
His condition looked the most severe of all. Because he had been too close to the reactor, nearly all the skin on his body had split open and hung from him in strips, exposing the flesh and blood beneath. He was swollen beyond recognition and could not move at all. Even lifting an arm was difficult.
The others in his ward had no choice but to find some vodka for him to drink, temporarily freeing the poor man from his agony. But he soon vomited
