Of course Bach did not care whether Valo lived or died. The reason he was willing to plead with Gabi was because of Zhang Heng.

Ever since that hard-fought victory, Bach had begun paying more and more attention to the Easterner he had never cared about before. During training, he would even sneak glances at Zhang Heng from time to time.

Yet that only left him more confused. Zhang Heng did not slack off in training and seemed quite serious, but his performance was slightly below average at best. It was no coincidence that Gabi had placed him in the group labeled "good attitude but limited talent."

Of course, Zhang Heng's Eastern appearance was still rather unusual and could be used as a selling point. Gabi therefore planned to ease the requirements a little during the final assessment.

Three days was not a long time, especially for someone who had just suffered such a heavy blow. It was far from enough for Valo to pull himself together.

But as Bach had said before, everyone on the training grounds had their own story. Everyone who entered the Gladiator School had their own reasons. Comparing misery was pointless, but life was sometimes this cruel. There was no changing what had already happened; all one could do was try to seize the present.

Yet from the looks of it, Valo could no longer seize the present. The former antiquities dealer intended to keep wallowing in despair.

Zhang Heng did nothing further either. These extra three days were the final chance he had won for Valo out of friendship, but if Valo himself had no will to live, then no amount of effort from others would matter.
