Among the many who came seeking guidance,
the most famous was Confucius...
Confucius was from the State of Lu, with ancestral roots in the State of Song.
When King Wu of Zhou enfeoffed the various states, he permitted the State of Song to offer sacrifices to the ancestors of the Shang Dynasty according to ancestral rites. The institutions of the Shang Dynasty were likewise preserved in the State of Song.
Yet what was interesting was this:
Confucius, a genuine descendant of the Shang Dynasty, was particularly devoted to the Rites of Zhou. His family had originally been aristocratic, but his father died when he was three, and the family fell into decline.
Even so, he had been interested in Rites and Music since his youth.
By the time he was young, he had become famous throughout the State of Lu for this...
He even made a living by arranging funerals for others!
Later, he turned directly to education, taking thousands of disciples... He traveled through the various states with his students, and upon hearing of Laozi's reputation, immediately went to Luoyi to ask Laozi about rites.
After all, Laozi was a librarian.
Living near the water, he got the moonlight first...
Laozi naturally had firsthand access to the many historical materials and records of the Zhou Dynasty, so it was only natural that he understood the Rites of Zhou better than anyone.
Before even meeting Confucius, Laozi sensed an upright, vigorous aura soaring heavenward and immediately looked toward where Confucius was.
"Myriad Heavens Auspicious Cloud?"
