Hundred-Legged
Riding Pidgeot, Lu Su quickly arrived at the mountaintop.
The structure of this mountain was strange. Instead of an open platform, the summit was the entrance to a cave.
If it had been an untouched cave, its pitch-black interior would indeed have been extremely dangerous.
However, the Association had already installed plenty of lighting equipment in this cave. It was not particularly bright, but it was not so dark that entering it would leave one blind.
After pondering at the entrance for a while, Lu Su decided to explore the cave.
The Association Card Master in the secret realm had said that no monsters above Black Iron Grade would appear, so nothing should go wrong.
He summoned Tsugikuni Yoriichi, and the two entered the cave side by side.
In the monitoring room, the Card Master Captain munched on biscuits as he watched the screens. "Young people these days are really bold. He actually dares to go in and explore? If I remember correctly, there's a Hundred-Legged in that cave, isn't there?"
The Captain truly admired Lu Su's courage. At Lu Su's age, he definitely would not have dared to go in and explore.
When no one responded, the Captain turned curiously toward Old Wang, who was staring blankly into space. "Old Wang? Old Wang?"
Seeing that Old Wang still did not react, the Captain asked with some concern, "Are you feeling unwell? Do you want to go back and rest for a while?"
"You've seemed strange all day."
It was as though Old Wang had not heard the Captain calling him. He continued to stare blankly at the screen.
After a long while, he seemed to wake from a dream. "Huh? No, no. I was just thinking about my mother."
The Captain shook his head and did not say much. "Let's get ready first. If this student can't handle it, we'll have to go rescue him."
Old Wang had once again returned to that vacant state. After thinking it over, the Captain swallowed the words of comfort that had reached his lips.
They were all here to coast toward retirement anyway. What was there to say?
"Tap, tap, tap."
The footsteps of Lu Su and Tsugikuni Yoriichi echoed through the hollow cave.
"Strange. Why haven't we encountered any monsters?" Lu Su was puzzled. They had been inside the cave for some time now, yet he and Tsugikuni Yoriichi had not seen even a single strand of monster fur, let alone an actual monster.
Just as Lu Su wondered why there were no monsters, he caught a faint whiff of something fishy and foul. He could not help turning to Tsugikuni Yoriichi. "Yoriichi, do you smell something?"
Tsugikuni Yoriichi nodded. He had also smelled something strange.
Seeing that Tsugikuni Yoriichi had noticed it too, Lu Su's expression turned solemn and he frowned. "Be careful, Yoriichi. There may be a rather powerful Demon in here."
What situation would leave an area completely devoid of Demons? Naturally, it meant there was a powerful presence here that utterly crushed all other Demons.
The two unconsciously softened their footsteps and continued forward slowly.
After a long while, they arrived at an open area.
Lu Su stared at the scene before him in shock and muttered, "So this is Thousand-Legged."
Before them lay a centipede nearly a hundred meters long, its enormous body reflecting a jet-black gleam.
However, the centipede had already been cut cleanly in half and was now a corpse.
Before they could marvel at it, a rustling sound beneath the corpse drew their attention.
"That is..." Lu Su focused his gaze and saw a centipede around eight or nine meters long.
"Can you deal with it, Yoriichi?" Lu Su asked Tsugikuni Yoriichi for his opinion. "If not, we'll leave now."
Lu Su was no fool. If they could not win in this situation, what else could they do but run?
But Tsugikuni Yoriichi merely drew the long blade in his hand in silence.
Lu Su naturally understood what he meant. "Then I'll leave it to you."
After giving it some thought, Lu Su summoned Pidgeot as well.
He stroked Pidgeot's head and said, "You go help Yoriichi too."
Although Pidgeot was only a Green Card, birds naturally had some advantage over centipedes. It should at least be able to help a little.
Pidgeot gently nudged Lu Su's hand before taking the lead and flying toward the giant centipede.
The centipede that had been prowling beneath the corpse was also drawn to the approaching Pidgeot.
"Hiss!" The centipede raised the front half of its body upright, releasing a piercing screech from its mouthparts before suddenly launching itself from the ground at Pidgeot.
Pidgeot made a nimble turn and evaded the centipede's pounce.
The centipede fell from midair toward the ground, while Tsugikuni Yoriichi had long been waiting beneath it.
Blazing fire rose from the ground and attacked the centipede.
But this centipede was clearly an elite monster. It would not be so easy to deal with.
No one knew where it found the leverage, but it suddenly spun in midair, turning its hard carapace toward Yoriichi's blade.
Sizzle!
Although it did not completely block Yoriichi's attack, it avoided sharing the fate of its predecessor and being cut in two with a single strike.
The centipede crashed heavily to the ground, opened its hideous mouthparts, and spewed out a cloud of purple poison mist.
If Yoriichi had been alone, this situation would indeed have been troublesome.
Fortunately, Pidgeot was there. Yoriichi grabbed one of Pidgeot's ankles with one hand and was carried into the air, easily evading the poison mist.
Sun Breathing, Seventh Form: Scorching Bone Sun!
The crimson blade wrapped in flames descended from the sky, and spinning firelight instantly engulfed the centipede on the ground.
The centipede let out a piercing cry as the flames scorched it.
Pidgeot carried Yoriichi slowly back down beside Lu Su. The two men and one bird silently watched the giant centipede struggle in agony on the ground.
After a long while, the centipede finally stopped moving.
"Pidgeot, please go test it again." Lu Su maintained his basic caution. He did not want to suffer a reversal in a situation that was already a sure win.
Sure enough, just as Pidgeot approached the centipede, the motionless creature suddenly lunged at it.
Unfortunately, it no longer had the strength. It fell to the ground without even touching Pidgeot.
After that, no matter how many bloody holes Pidgeot pecked into its body, it gave no response.
Only then did Lu Su approach the centipede's corpse with relief and begin condensing the material.
Black Iron Grade Hundred-Legged (Purple)
Looking at the material in his hand, Lu Su could not help feeling grateful. Fortunately, Jiang Nanxi had reminded him to make a mount-type card. Otherwise, he would never have thought to create Pidgeot.
Without Pidgeot, Yoriichi could still have killed the centipede, but it probably would not have been nearly so easy.
"Whoa, this student is pretty impressive." In the monitoring room, the Captain voiced his admiration as he watched Lu Su kill the Hundred-Legged. "Old Wang, you really should watch this."
Just as the Captain wondered why Old Wang had gone quiet again, a burst of heavy breathing came from behind him.
"Hah... hah... hah..."
The Captain hurriedly tried to turn around and check what was happening, but it was too late. A scarlet Claws had already pierced through his chest.
Then, he saw his vision begin to spin endlessly.
"Old... Old Wang? Is that... my corpse?"
Accompanied by the sound of a heavy body hitting the floor, a scarlet figure violently shoved open the door to the monitoring room.
The scarlet figure sniffed the air, then suddenly rushed off in one direction.
No one knew of the drastic change that had occurred in the monitoring room. Only the blood slowly flowing out of it bore witness to the massacre.
