Unfortunately, Kaneki Ken did not know that Kamishiro Rize was a Ghoul, the man-eating demon of urban legend.

After his date with Kamishiro Rize, when the two parted ways, Kamishiro Rize revealed her true nature and severely injured Kaneki Ken.

Fortunately, falling steel beams buried Kamishiro Rize, saving Kaneki Ken.

At the hospital, in order to save Kaneki Ken's life, the doctors decided to transplant Kamishiro Rize's organs into him.

Thus, Kamishiro Rize's Kagune Sac came to reside within Kaneki Ken, and he became a One-Eyed Ghoul.

At first, Kaneki Ken did not notice anything unusual about his body after becoming a Ghoul, until he tried eating human food.

He discovered that he could no longer eat human food, and that he even felt an appetite for those who had once been his own kind while walking the streets.

Finally, one night, he could no longer suppress his desires and went out to hunt.

Along the way, he encountered Kirishima Touka, a waitress at the café "Anteiku."

Kirishima Touka naturally knew Kamishiro Rize's identity, so she was greatly surprised that Kaneki Ken was still alive.

By chance, Kaneki Ken learned that Nishio Nishiki, an upperclassman at his school, was also a Ghoul.

Nishio Nishiki tried to kill Kaneki Ken's friend, Hideyoshi Nagachika.

This enraged Kaneki Ken, and for the first time, he unleashed Kamishiro Rize's Kagune.

At the same time, Aogiri Tree's executives, Kirishima Ayato and Yakumo Oomori, also came calling.

Yakumo Oomori smelled Kamishiro Rize's scent on Kaneki Ken, and Kaneki Ken was taken away.

When Yakumo Oomori returned, he encountered the transformed Kaneki Ken and was easily defeated by him.

After helping Kirishima Touka and the others who had come to rescue him out of their predicament, Kaneki Ken told her that he did not intend to return to "Anteiku" and joined Aogiri Tree.

When Kaneki Ken appeared again, he was attacking Cochlea alongside Aogiri Tree.

In his madness, Kaneki Ken defeated Investigator Shinohara Yukinori, only to be defeated by the enraged Amon Koutarou.

At that moment, Aogiri Tree's leader, the One-Eyed Owl, appeared and rescued him.

During the battle between the CCG and "Anteiku," Aogiri Tree suddenly intervened.

Kaneki also fought a final battle against Amon Koutarou and successfully defeated him.

But unfortunately, among the CCG personnel who had come this time was their ace, Arima Kishou.

Kaneki was defeated by him and ultimately lost his memories before joining the CCG.
