Background / History
Xuanjizi attained the Dao from a wisp of Innate Xun Wind. Because he took human form after the Primordial Era's first golden age and avoided conflict by nature, he remained stuck at the early Golden Immortal stage despite cultivating for vast ages. He lived in seclusion near West Kunlun until accidentally offending a Demon Marshal while collecting a spirit herb; forced to flee, he used an Ancient Teleportation Talisman and arrived on the East Sea shore near Myriad Dao Academy. 12
The academy's Literary Qi, order, and declaration of “Education for All” gave him hope unavailable to an unaffiliated cultivator. He sought admission even if it meant becoming only a peripheral disciple. 12
Xuanjizi passed the Dao Seeking Stele through his sincere desire to understand the Dao, crossed all 999 Willpower Forging Steps through a resolve refined by hardship, and faced his past fears and aspirations in the Heart Cleansing Pool. Wanhua recognized him as the academy's founding First Disciple. 13 14
In the Outer Academy, Wanhua's clone refashioned his foundation with Literary Qi. His former immortal power was sublimated into power bearing will and principles, while the true nature of “Seeking” took root in his Sea of Consciousness. 16 He subsequently condensed the “Seeking” Literary Heart, formally establishing his path in the Confucian Dao. 18
Appearance
Xuanjizi is a male Daoist whose initial appearance reflected his life as a hunted rogue cultivator: he arrived in a torn, unremarkable Daoist robe, visibly exhausted and downcast from his flight. 12
- His bearing becomes increasingly composed and dignified as his cultivation and responsibilities grow. 24
- He is often associated with clear breeze-like movement and wind-based intent, reflecting his Xun Wind origin. 12 23
- His Platform of Seeking Literary Palace manifests within his Sea of Consciousness as a structure of principle Runes and the Dao of “Seeking.” 41 44
Personality
Xuanjizi is defined by perseverance. He endured countless cultivation failures, isolation, and pursuit without abandoning his wish to seek the Great Dao; this determination carried him through the academy's entrance trials. 12 14
As First Disciple, he is calm under pressure and treats leadership as a responsibility rather than a privilege. He directs disciples during training, guards the academy against stronger enemies, and shares his discoveries rather than reserving them for himself. 23 27 41
He favors investigation, reason, and practical action over force. This outlook shapes his response to crises: rather than merely resisting the Aura of Annihilation, he sought to understand its place in the cycle of change. 37 40 41
His teaching style is patient and grounded. Among the newly born Human Race, he begins with food distribution, healing, seasonal patterns, mutual aid, and human relations instead of abstract doctrine. 65 66 67
Abilities & Skills
Seeking Literary Heart
Xuanjizi's Literary Heart embodies the pursuit of truth, principles, transcendence, and the Great Dao.
- Condensed after opening his Sea of Consciousness; it advanced him to the mid-stage Golden Immortal realm. 18
- Resonates strongly with perseverance and the Unity of Knowledge and Action. 21
- Supports his ability to investigate phenomena, deduce principles, and lead collective cultivation efforts. 36 41
- Developed into the Platform of Seeking Literary Palace, later incorporating the realm of Unchanging Change. 41 44
Literary Fire Body Tempering Chapter
The foundational Confucian Dao method tempers body, Primordial Spirit, and Dao foundation through internally generated Literary Fire.
- Converts and refines his former immortal power into Literary Qi aligned with principles and will. 16
- Strengthens his Dao body and improves his ability to transform external spiritual qi into gentler Literary Qi. 16
- Reached a perfected state by the time his mid-stage Golden Immortal cultivation stabilized. 24
Tongue-and-Sword
Xuanjizi condenses Literary Qi and intent into an invisible edge based on sharpness, uprightness, wind, and exploration.
- His first demonstrated strike cut an inch-deep mark into a Sword-Testing Stone. 23
- Requires close unity of mind, Literary Qi, and intent; one use consumed nearly a tenth of his Literary Qi during early practice. 23
- He later incorporated a trace of Evil-Slaying Brushstroke intent, improving its offensive power. 24
- Uses it to protect the Dao and cut through evil or delusion rather than for vanity or aggression. 23
Yi Li Ding Ji
A method created from Xuanjizi's comprehension of the I Ching principle of Unchanging Change.
- Forms a flowing “Yi” Rune that balances Order and Void while drawing in nearby Aura of Annihilation. 41
- Temporarily fixes and slows the aura's erosion, creating safe points within afflicted areas. 41 43
- Cannot eradicate the root cause of the Aura of Annihilation. 41
- Places severe demands on mental energy and Literary Qi, preventing sustained use. 41
- Became the foundation for other disciples' adaptations of the principle of Change. 41 42
Literary Heart Sword of Slaying Thoughts
A formless sword intent that attacks delusions, inner demons, and mental corruption rather than physical bodies.
- Originated from Xuanjizi's realization that demons born from the heart must be slain through the heart. 52 53
- Severs demonic thoughts from their source and shatters illusions that confuse the heart. 56
- Severely injured the Shadow Guards' leader during the Heavenly Court assassination attempt. 58
- Depends upon unwavering faith in one's principles and the ability to perceive falsehood; an unclear heart cannot wield it effectively. 53
Formations and Defensive Leadership
Xuanjizi is a capable organizer of collective Literary Qi formations.
- Led the Wanhua Guardian Formation against Ao Xin's wave and Dragon Breath assault. 27
- Helped maintain the academy's defenses against the Dragon Palace fleet despite suffering severe backlash as the formation's principal controller. 30 31
- Prepared the ambush formation Drawing a Circle to Make a Prison against Heavenly Court Shadow Guards. 58
- Activated the academy's Inheritance of Fire Array during the demonic tide, drawing upon the accumulated Literary Radiance and inheritance of the academy. 59
Teaching, Mediation, and Governance
Xuanjizi applies Confucian Dao principles to education and civil order.
- Led the first practical implementation of Unity of Knowledge and Action by helping reclaim a simulated saline-alkali wasteland. 36
- Commanded an Action Team that investigated, purified, and sealed the Source of Filth in Black Tooth Marsh. 37
- Taught the Human Race survival skills, propriety, mutual aid, natural principles, and social relations. 65 66
- Mediated a dispute over resource distribution by balancing labor contribution, long-term service, and the needs of the vulnerable; he established a public reserve for emergencies. 67
- Promoted reasoned debate and recorded shared agreements as a Settlement Convention. 77
- Helped institutionalize the East Sea Human Alliance through the Common Covenant and consensus-based deliberation. 82 84
