Ling'er tried following his example. When the first bite of lobster entered her mouth, she paused, as though savoring its fresh sweetness and springy texture. Then she picked up the pace, eating with greater concentration than at any meal before.
Next came the large mud crabs. These were supposed to be shelled before eating, but Ling'er simply grabbed a claw from a crab roasted bright red and bit into it. Her teeth were truly formidable: she easily crunched through the hard shell and swallowed it.
Afterward, she even complained a little that it was not as tasty as the lobster and that its shell was too hard.
Xiao Yun immediately burst out laughing. He mixed the dipping sauce, then showed her how to pick out the crabmeat before dipping it in the sauce and feeding it to her.
Ling'er's eyes lit up after she tasted it. She had never expected crabmeat to be so delicious. After that, Xiao Yun did not need to help her at all. With a little pressure from her delicate hands, she easily broke the shells apart. Even the hard claws came apart effortlessly in her grasp, and her eyes narrowed with pleasure as she ate the sweet meat inside.
This was also the first time she had tasted food this delicious.
She thoroughly approved of the kelp, sea snails, and sea cucumbers that followed, eating every last morsel.
After the meal, Ling'er carried the bowls and plates to the kitchen sink. By the time she returned to the doorway, her steps were much steadier than when she had first arrived.
Once they had finished dinner, Xiao Yun cleared the shells from the table, rinsed the tabletop and cooking utensils with seawater, and returned the utensils to the shelves in the wooden house.
