There were actually more than twelve rooms in the Department of Mysteries. Behind some doors lay even more intricate passageways. Researchers had determined that the entire Department of Mysteries contained forty-two distinct rooms, involving all manner of mysterious energies.
Almost all of them corresponded to certain concepts, such as death, love, and time. These purely conceptual magical energies could not be found anywhere else and possessed incomparable research value.
Starting two years ago, Murphy had continuously established laboratories here to conduct corresponding research into every type of energy.
Within each energy laboratory, he had set up multiple secondary research projects related to its concept. For example, the death project group not only experimented with the power beyond the archway and veil in the Death Chamber, but also conducted cross-disciplinary research on ghosts, Horcruxes, the Spirit World, Obscuruses, portraits, and various other things.
At present, the researchers had basically confirmed that the space beyond the veil connected to the Spirit World. However, the veil was a one-way passage: it could send things in, but nothing could be retrieved. Anything thrown inside would lose its "physical form" upon reaching the veil's boundary, as though it had been swallowed by the veil.
They were attempting to find a substance capable of existing in both the present world and the Spirit World, so they could establish a two-way passage between the two realms and obtain information from the Spirit World.
In the Brain Room, researchers had used the green solution that sustained the brains to develop a method that allowed brains to survive outside the body.
They discovered that monkey brains soaked in the green solution grew "thought tentacles." These tentacles allowed the brains to directly perceive their surroundings, could be used for movement, and could absorb "mind magic" through the green solution to
