A crashing bolt of lightning tore through the sky, startling Bones awake from her rest.
The slightly rough parchment beneath her fingertips felt real. That sensation was reassuring. Bones let out a long breath, gave up on resting, and prepared to resume reviewing documents. Before returning to work, she glanced at Jokins beside her.
"Bertha, if you're tired, take a little rest..."
She reminded her softly. Seeing Jokins nod slightly, she picked up her quill and prepared to review the backlog of recent affairs.
Just then, her wrist suddenly froze. The ink-heavy quill tip bled great blotches across the parchment as an unusual palpitation rose in her chest, making her heart race uncontrollably.
Bones frowned at the ink blots. The sudden, inexplicable sensation unsettled her, and she looked around in confusion.
The half-closed door to the Minister's Office remained still. No paper-airplane or paper-crane-shaped notices suddenly darted through it. The surroundings were quiet. Bertha Jokins was bent over her work, the fireplace flames burned silently, and even the rumbling thunder had stopped.
Everything was as calm as usual, so... what was wrong?
Bones swept her gaze around, and her eyes instinctively settled on the alchemical array's central core nearby. The intricate, harmonious runes emitted a soft glow. To her horror, several of the uppermost runes had already shattered, irregular patches of light spreading toward the other runes.
Bones, acting minister and defender of headquarters, narrowed her eyes and cried out in terror:
"Someone is attacking the Ministry of Magic!"
"Besides casting spells, Witches also brew all sorts of potions. Whenever they meet someone they dislike, they trick them into drinking one..."
Nymphadora Tonks held a little girl dressed as a Witch, her voice sounding exactly like a Witch bewitching a child.
Looking at that pretty face and listening to
