Number 88 arrives in Fengcheng with Chang Ye to investigate child abductions connected to Hydra’s Blood Spear Project, a genetic-modification program targeting gifted Great Xia children. He reveals Qianlong’s involvement to local officials and demands access to the captured Gene Person. 6

He later discusses Lin Xiaosu’s anomalous scent-tracking ability with Chang Ye, considers whether Lin may have undergone undisclosed gene modification, and warns Chang Ye to be cautious when recruiting talent for Qianlong. 7

Lin Xiaosu’s Assessment

After observing Lin Xiaosu’s training results, Number 88 concludes that Lin’s marksmanship and tactical ability qualify him for special operations despite his weak physical condition. He and Chang Ye unanimously approve Lin as a Qianlong reserve member. 17 20
