Ding Yuqin had planned to sleep at home, hoping that when she woke up, she would see Wang Tao return safely.
But with Wang Tao gone, she felt far too insecure to sleep at all.
So she watched Wang Tao from the balcony.
Because of the angle, she hadn't seen how Wang Tao left Building 4 or avoided the zombies, but she had seen him easily vault over the courtyard wall and evade the zombies.
That made Ding Yuqin a little excited.
"Wang Tao is so strong, he'll definitely be fine!"
After Wang Tao climbed over, she could no longer see what happened to him. She could only see part of the street. Still, she remained on the balcony, glancing toward the district entrance from time to time while sewing a Black Mask in her hands.
It was a double-layered mask with a large white skull grin on it.
Wang Tao had previously seen a piece of clothing printed with a skull. He thought it would look cool to cut out the skull and sew it onto a mask.
But Wang Tao had only mentioned it casually. He had no time for flashy things that couldn't improve his combat ability. He would rather spend that time training, and besides, he wasn't good with a needle and thread.
But Ding Yuqin had taken those words to heart. She had nothing much to do at home anyway, so she decided to make Wang Tao a cool new mask.
Just as she finished sewing the mask, she saw that the zombies in the district below seemed to become agitated. Then, a faint humming sound drifted over.
She didn't know what was happening, but seeing the agitated zombies outside made her heart leap into her throat.
"Wang Tao, please don't let anything happen to you..."
The sound outside grew louder and louder, the zombies below became more and more agitated, and Ding Yuqin grew increasingly nervous and excited.
"Sounds like an airplane..."
She hadn't seen the Transport Plane, but she had flown before, and the sound was very similar. She guessed that a plane might be passing overhead.
She was naturally nervous for Wang Tao, while her excitement came from thinking of government rescue efforts.
But after living through the apocalypse for so many days, she had completely lost hope in the idea of rescue.
Even now that she heard the sound of an airplane, she didn't dare place too much hope in it.
After all, the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment.
She had now placed all her hopes on Wang Tao. Wang Tao had promised her that he wouldn't abandon her! Just as Ding Yuqin prayed for Wang Tao to return soon, she suddenly heard another roar. But this sound wasn't in the sky—it came from the district entrance.
She quickly focused her gaze and saw a White Pickup Truck suddenly reverse out of an alley, then sharply fishtail ninety degrees, turning the driver's side toward Happiness District.
"That's... Wang Tao!"
Ding Yuqin immediately clenched the mask in her hand excitedly.
Although she was too far away to clearly see the person inside, she knew Wang Tao's build and his all-black gear better than anyone!
"Is he planning to drive the truck back into the district? He must have gotten a lot of supplies! That's great—"
Ding Yuqin, who had been talking to herself, suddenly trailed off.
Because she realized Wang Tao wasn't driving into the district at all. Instead, he headed directly down another street. In the blink of an eye, all she could see were the two red taillights on the White Pickup Truck.
"He... left?"
Ding Yuqin looked lost.
Tap—
The mask she had just finished sewing fell to the floor.
"He clearly promised me that if he had the ability, he wouldn't abandon me... He obviously still had the ability..."
"Liar!"
"They're all liars!"
"Waaah..."
Ten minutes earlier.
After hesitating for a few seconds, Wang Tao decided to go for the airdrop.
As the saying went, opportunities were reserved for those who were prepared. This airdrop wasn't far from him. If he didn't seize this chance, who knew when the next airdrop would come—or whether there would even be a next time.
Moreover, Wang Tao wanted the airdrop not just for the supplies inside. He wanted to know what was happening outside and what the government's situation was; whether there was still any chance of restoring order; whether the government knew more about this apocalypse...
He was certain that the government would leave information inside the airdrop.
So this was an opportunity.
There happened to be a fully fueled pickup truck outside the door, and the airdrop was falling in a sparsely populated area with relatively fewer cars on the road... More importantly, he had two Stealth Potions that could keep zombies away! That was where his confidence came from! Wang Tao didn't actually like taking risks, but with so many favorable factors laid out before him, he felt this risk was worth taking! So Wang Tao grabbed the keys, opened the pickup truck door, and loaded all the supplies he had just gathered into the truck.
Then, with a beautiful reversing fishtail, he slammed on the gas before the distant zombies could react.
Vroom—
The White Pickup Truck roared away, and several zombies by the roadside got a mouthful of exhaust.
Inside the truck.
Feeling the wind rushing past his ears and watching the buildings flash by, Wang Tao suddenly felt a surge of boldness.
Who said people had to hide at home during the apocalypse?
Couldn't he still run wild outside? Looking at some zombies on the road, Wang Tao raised his middle finger at them in an internationally friendly gesture and kindly greeted their families.
Soon, the truck approached a residential plaza. Several abandoned vehicles parked at the entrance blocked the road. Wang Tao remembered that there were quite a few zombies inside the plaza, so he immediately slowed down, trying to stay as quiet as possible while looking for a way through.
At the entrance to the plaza stood a scrawny Female Zombie with her head lowered.
As the pickup truck approached, she slowly raised her head, revealing a mouth stretched all the way to her ears. Then her mouth widened further and further.
Then—
"Ahhh~~~"
A piercing shriek, like glass being scraped, burst from her mouth.
Wang Tao jumped in fright inside the truck.
"What the hell!"
Following the sound, he saw the Female Zombie with her mouth wide open.
"Huh? She only has 200/200 health?"
But before Wang Tao had time to be surprised, he saw a large group of zombies in the distant plaza awaken at the scream. One after another, they turned their heads toward the pickup truck, then began walking—and even running—toward Wang Tao!
"Fuck!"
Seeing at least a hundred zombies charging toward him, Wang Tao no longer cared about finding a route. He sharply turned the steering wheel and rammed straight into the Screaming Zombie.
Bang—
-34 -166 0/200
The Screaming Zombie was first knocked flying, then the truck ran over her head, crushing her to death!
Wang Tao stretched one hand out the window. With a thought, the package left behind by the Screaming Zombie's death was absorbed into his body—he had tested it before; as long as he was within roughly three meters of a zombie, he could absorb its transparent package.
He didn't have time to see what the zombie had dropped. He slammed on the gas, and the pickup truck continued forward without slowing, crashing into the rear of an abandoned sedan ahead.
With a deafening bang, the abandoned vehicle was knocked aside, while the pickup truck jolted violently and its body swerved somewhat out of control.
Wang Tao yanked the steering wheel twice in succession, forcibly stabilizing the truck.
Watching at least a hundred hideous zombies chasing behind him in the rearview mirror, Wang Tao stepped on the gas again.
"Damn it, I can't show off like that again!"
