He locked his own door.

Fully armed, Wang Tao headed out.

His target today was Room 301, but before entering 301, he stopped outside both Apartment 402 and Apartment 302.

Apartment 402 on the fourth floor and Apartment 302 on the third floor were completely silent; he could not hear anything. Wang Tao knocked lightly on both doors, but there was still no response.

Wang Tao suspected there was probably no one in either apartment. After all, the Zombie Virus had broken out on a workday, and many office workers had gone to work.

There should have been survivors in Apartment 401 below him. Back when the internet had gone down, Wang Tao had heard someone inside cursing. This time, he did not disturb them.

As for whether there was anyone in his target, Room 301... Wang Tao first retrieved the key from the Electric Meter Box. Sure enough, there was a key. He pressed his ear to the door and listened, but heard nothing.

Then he prepared to knock on Room 301's door.

If no one was inside, there definitely would not be any response.

If someone was inside, they might not respond out of fear. Someone braver might ask who was outside.

If there were zombies, there would most likely be a response—growling, pounding on the door, and so on. Zombies were sensitive to sound, after all. But if the zombie was locked inside a room, Wang Tao might not hear it even if it responded. Then again, if it was locked in a room, he would not need to be afraid.

So, to sum it up—

If he knocked and no one responded, then entering would most likely be safe. At the very least, the living room would be safe.

If there was any movement, then there was a zombie in the living room.

There was perhaps one other possibility: a survivor could be waiting behind the door to ambush him. That possibility was probably small for now, not to mention whether there was any reason to do so. If these survivors had that kind of nerve, they would not be hiding inside, too afraid to come out. Still, it was a possibility, so Wang Tao had to stay alert. One must always be wary of others.

Once he was ready, Wang Tao took a deep breath and lightly tapped on Room 301's door.

"Roar!"

Hearing a burst of growling and footsteps from inside, Wang Tao immediately felt a headache coming on.

The worst-case scenario had appeared: there was a zombie inside! And this was an apartment shared by two tenants, so Wang Tao was not sure how many zombies were in there.

After thinking grimly for several seconds, Wang Tao decided to listen through the door.

Wang Tao gripped his Homemade Short Spear tightly, his eyes flickering.

Judging from the sound, there should only be one zombie. I didn't hear a second one. But what if there are two... If there are two zombies, I might not be able to handle them. I can't make even one mistake. If I get infected, I'll die...

Wang Tao struggled inwardly, but he was not an indecisive person.

I'm already here... Let's do it!

The zombie was locked inside, while he held the key to open the door. The initiative was his! If he opened the door and found two zombies inside, he would immediately shut it and retreat.

It was not that he was scared. If he had a decent weapon, maybe he could try taking on two zombies. But this weapon was just too poor; after stabbing a head once, it would be ruined...

Wang Tao gently turned the key. The instant the door opened, he yanked it wide and suddenly kicked out hard.

Wang Tao did not rush in to finish it off. Instead, he quickly scanned the room.

One bedroom door was closed, and he did not know whether there was danger behind it. But there was only one zombie in the living room! The advantage was mine!

Wang Tao gripped the Homemade Short Spear with both hands, pushed off with his rear foot, and suddenly accelerated.

"Roar~"

The Female Zombie twisted as she climbed to her feet, letting out an angry roar. Then she spread her arms and staggered toward Wang Tao.

Wang Tao had intended to stab her in the neck with his short spear, but the zombie suddenly lunged forward, dodging his strike.

Wang Tao remained calm in the face of danger. He turned the short spear and slashed at the zombie's left arm.

The Kitchen Knife might not have been sharp, but Wang Tao's strength was astonishing. A massive wound opened across the zombie's left arm, spraying black blood everywhere.

Meanwhile, the zombie's other hand—her right hand—slammed hard into Wang Tao's right arm.

The zombie opened her mouth and bit toward Wang Tao.

Wang Tao shoved the bracer on his left arm into the zombie's mouth, bracing her lower jaw. At the same time, the short spear in his right hand stabbed viciously into her stomach.

That amount of damage was little more than a scratch to the zombie, but it successfully limited her movements. Then Wang Tao's muscles bulged all over, his right leg gathered force, and he whipped a kick into the zombie's waist.

Bang! The zombie slid several meters across the floor before smashing headfirst into the wall. She seemed dazed for the moment, unable to get back up.

After putting away the loot, Wang Tao did not immediately search the room. Instead, he sat down to rest for a while, then turned his gaze toward the closed bedroom door.

If he remembered correctly, the Female Zombie's Health Bar had been 482/500 when he entered, and his kick when opening the door had dealt only 3 damage. In other words, this Female Zombie had not been at full health! She had mutated at home, so theoretically she should have been at full health—unless...

Wang Tao gripped the short spear with both hands and kicked the bedroom door hard.

Bang! The bedroom door was fairly sturdy and withstood Wang Tao's kick. But the lock was clearly not very good; it was forcibly destroyed on the spot.

The instant the door opened, Wang Tao saw a Male Zombie lying on the floor, missing half its body and unable to move.
