Lying in the room was a male zombie missing half his body. Though he looked quite lively and was powerfully built, he was missing limbs and could neither stand nor dodge. Wang Tao easily smashed his head.

Wang Tao felt that this Female Zombie was weaker than the male zombie in the hallway. He killed her without using Jumping Slash. The minor injury he suffered was only because of the terrain.

However, Jumping Slash was powerful and also damaged weapons badly. After dealing with the Female Zombie without using it, his Homemade Short Spear could barely still be used.

After killing the male zombie, his Kitchen Knife was completely ruined. Even the rolling pin had cracked and was on the verge of being scrapped.

After resting briefly, Wang Tao checked the room.

He inspected both the bathroom and kitchen. Once he confirmed there was no danger, he locked Apartment 301's front door and began taking stock of his gains.

First was the male zombie. After killing it, Wang Tao gained another 5 points to his maximum health, and his Health Bar became 115/120.

Then there was the package it dropped.

It was a gear roughly the diameter of a ping-pong ball.

The Female Zombie had dropped an Iron Block, while the male zombie had dropped a gear. Both descriptions called them crafting materials.

"Crafting materials" was a broad term, and things like iron blocks and gears should be fairly common in everyday life. Hardware stores had plenty of them.

Wang Tao did not know how the items dropped by zombies differed from ordinary ones, but until he figured out their uses, he would save them and not use them carelessly. In any case, zombie drops could be stored in his Space Backpack, which made them convenient to keep.

After putting the gear into his Space Backpack, he began searching the body. However, the male zombie had nothing useful on him.

Finally, he searched through all of Apartment 301.

As Wang Tao looted the place, he pieced together what had likely happened here from the clues and his own guesses.

When the apocalypse broke out, the woman had probably turned into a zombie while the man remained normal.

The man might have had some fighting ability. When the woman attacked him, he fought back and took more than ten points of health from the Female Zombie.

But he had been injured as well, and half his body had even been eaten by the Female Zombie.

After being infected with the Zombie Virus, the time before mutation varied from one minute to twenty-four hours. The man had held out for quite a while. Driven by a strong will to survive, and perhaps strengthened somewhat by the Zombie Virus as it took effect, he had dragged his severely injured body back to his room.

But in the end, he still could not withstand the virus and turned into a zombie.

After he became a zombie, the Female Zombie might have lost interest in him. That was why it had felt so quiet inside when Wang Tao arrived...

"The apocalypse..."

He sighed inwardly, but his hands did not stop looting.

Perhaps because two people had lived here, the apartment was full of numerous, cluttered things.

The woman's belongings in particular took Wang Tao a while to sort through: clothes, cosmetics, adult toys, bags, all kinds of accessories, and more.

The man's belongings were much simpler. Other than relatively many shoes and electronic devices, there was little miscellaneous junk.

What Wang Tao cared about most, however, was food. But the two of them did not have much—only enough for a day or two—and it was mostly vegetables and fruit that would not keep well. They had all wilted.

There were quite a few unopened snack packs in the woman's room, though. They would not fill him up, but none of them were cheap.

"Huh?"

Wang Tao found three neatly cut Steel Pipes in the kitchen: one a meter long and two half a meter long.

"Good stuff!"

Wang Tao had been wondering what to use to replace the cracked rolling pin, and these Steel Pipes had arrived at just the right time. If he sharpened them, they could even replace a Kitchen Knife. He had a whetstone at home, so he could grind them slowly after returning.

"Oh right, I should take this too!"

Wang Tao carried the gas cylinder out of the kitchen.

The gas cylinder at Room 602 was nearly empty, so Wang Tao had not taken it. But this one in Apartment 301 was basically full and could be brought back as well.

An hour later, Wang Tao sprinted toward Room 501 with a bundle wrapped in a bedsheet on his back, Steel Pipes sticking out of it, and a suitcase in each hand.

After setting the things down at the door, Wang Tao ran back to Apartment 301 for the gas cylinder.

Before locking Apartment 301's door, however, he thought for a moment, then went back inside. Suppressing his nausea, he dragged the two zombies out, opened the window, and threw them down one after the other. He also tossed down the zombie from the hallway.

Since the windows on the south side faced the Residential Area Courtyard, he was afraid of drawing zombies over. So he threw them from the north-side windows, onto the street.

Bang, bang, bang—

Three heavy impacts sounded as the bodies hit the ground.

Hiss—

Roar—

The street instantly filled with eerie, chilling howls. Numerous vicious, terrifying zombies emerged from the darkness and wandered toward the source of the noise.

"Just as I thought, the streets are full of zombies!"

Wang Tao felt a chill run through him. Judging by the numbers, there were probably thirty to fifty of them. Who knew whether there were more inside those storefronts? If someone unaware rushed in, they might not even have anywhere to run.

There was a convenience store across the street. Wang Tao had originally thought that if he got the chance, he could loot it. The supplies inside would surely be plentiful. But now he immediately abandoned that idea. He still wanted to live a few more days.

After carrying the gas cylinder up to Room 501, Wang Tao was about to open the door when the neighboring door to Room 502 opened a crack.

Ding Yuqin stared in shock at the large and small bundles around Wang Tao.

In fact, she had started paying attention from the moment Wang Tao left.

She had vaguely heard some of the commotion downstairs just now. She did not know exactly what had happened there. She only knew that when Wang Tao left, he had carried a rolling pin with a Kitchen Knife tied to it, but when he returned, he brought back bags full of supplies.

Especially the half bag of rice sticking out of the large bundle. She felt that if Wang Tao gave her that rice, she could eat it raw! Seeing that Wang Tao was about to open his door and go inside, she gritted her teeth and opened hers.

Because Wang Tao was wearing glasses, Ding Yuqin could not see his eyes clearly.

"Ahem... Wang Tao, you're really amazing! You got so many supplies today! It doesn't look easy for you to carry them either... Sister-in-law, Sister-in-law will help you..."

After saying that, Ding Yuqin awkwardly lowered her head to look at her feet—oh, she could not see her toes.

Wang Tao was somewhat speechless. It was indeed inconvenient to carry so much, but he had already reached his own door. Was he really short of these last two steps? Where had she been earlier?

However, seeing the blush slowly spread across Ding Yuqin's pale little face, and seeing the Health Bar above her head showing only 15/100, Wang Tao thought for a moment before saying, "Alright. Then I'll trouble you, Sister-in-law."
