"Intruders?" Raymond McMullen turned around, looking at the soldier standing before his desk in black tactical gear, his head completely encased in a gas mask. A flicker of confusion crossed his eyes.
This was the base of Blackwatch, the most powerful agency in the United States government outside of the IRS, and his GENTEC experimental facility had a higher security clearance than the White House.
He could understand intruders, but for them to have breached the DX-1118 pathogen laboratory was a matter of some concern.
"Was any reagent lost?"
The soldier replied meticulously, "One vial of the viral prototype was lost, and the culprit has been identified. The two individuals were not working together; the intruder we captured is an Asian male, and he is currently being held in the test subject zone."
After a moment of thought regarding the failed experiments in the test subject zone, Raymond McMullen shook his head, waved the soldier away, and returned to his research.
The base dealt with secret infiltrations from other countries every single moment; he didn't pay much attention to the occasional mouse that managed to slip inside.
Two hours passed, and a researcher in a white lab coat rushed into Raymond McMullen's office, holding a tablet high in the air, exclaiming excitedly, "Chairman, we found the person we were looking for! He! He is special!"
The researcher's excitement was palpable, causing Raymond McMullen to break into a look of wild joy after a momentary pause.
Leaving his desk, Raymond McMullen snatched the tablet, his eyes scanning the contents rapidly as he asked in a trembling voice, "Have we found someone who meets the requirements?"
"I don't know, but there is a gene in his body that is different from all of ours. Perhaps this will be the key to a breakthrough in our experiments!" The researcher stood to the side, gesturing wildly at the tablet, his body trembling with agitation.
Seemingly imagining the scene of a successful experiment, a look of madness gradually crept across his rough face.
After reviewing the comparison charts, Raymond McMullen felt a spark of interest and tossed the tablet back to the researcher, reaching for the white lab coat on the coat rack.
"Take me to see him!"
Two hours ago...
After Li Wei used his newly cut key to open his apartment door, he had inexplicably appeared inside a high-tech laboratory.
Before he could even process the situation, a dozen heavily armed biochemical soldiers rushed out from the door, their guns leveled at him.
Facing the barrels, regardless of whether they were real or not, he dared not resist.
Just like that, before he could even figure out what was happening, he was dragged into a dark iron cage.
There were lights inside the iron cage, along with a dozen bizarre humanoid creatures that reeked of rot.
Li Wei assumed they were people suffering from some kind of plague, and combined with the gas-masked soldiers he had seen earlier, his face turned a sickly shade of liver-colored purple.
He wanted to curse them out, but as those dozen swaying "patients" began to close in on him, Li Wei changed his mind.
Because these men and women, covered in tumors from head to toe, seemed intent on attacking him!
They looked exactly like the zombies from movies, only uglier.
Watching the dozen or so clearly deranged individuals slowly closing the distance, Li Wei issued another warning in English, "Keep your distance! Be careful, I will defend myself! Stop right there!"
This statement was transmitted through the corner surveillance camera to the people in the monitoring room and the lab, immediately drawing a burst of laughter from the Blackwatch members.
Two of the Blackwatch soldiers who were goofing off in the monitoring room watched the video and shouted, "Guys, we've got a show!"
Then, one of them zoomed in on the feed, projected it onto the main screen, and connected the audio to the speakers.
This was an occasional pastime of theirs; reality wasn't a game, and they weren't that rigid.
Seeing the image on the big screen of Li Wei surrounded by a dozen infected, the remaining dozen Blackwatch soldiers set aside their work and watched with great interest.
One of them even pulled out a small chalkboard to act as a bookie.
"Odds are 1.1 for him lasting one minute, 1.5 for five minutes, 2 for ten minutes, and 5 for a counter-kill! If you want to win a new pair of underwear, place your bets now—I'm going on leave next week!" The Blackwatch soldier with the chalkboard quickly set up a makeshift betting pool, enticing the others to wager.
But his shouting drew complaints from many.
"Bullshit! Is 1.1 odds enough for me to buy a pair of underwear?"
"Everyone bet on one minute, let Hunter lose those floral boxers!"
"Screw you, I'm putting 30 credits on five minutes!"
"That's dirty! I'm putting 10 credits on five minutes!"
"Pike, only 10 credits? Did you spend all your money on hookers?"
"F**k you!"
In the end, everyone placed their bets, mostly on one, five, or ten minutes; none of them believed he could pull off a counter-kill.
Because Li Wei was wearing a black suit and was, in their eyes, a frail Asian man, they all bet against him facing a dozen infected.
After the Blackwatch soldiers finished placing their bets, Li Wei in the monitor was finally backed into the corner of the iron cage.
With his repeated warnings ignored, a dangerous glint grew in Li Wei's eyes. He shook his hands and muttered, "Self-defense, I'm just acting in self-defense..."
As the words fell, a female infected with a head full of tumors lunged at him. Li Wei let out a strange cry and kicked out, sending her flying into two other infected, causing them to roll into a heap.
Then, his body darted out like an arrow from a bow, throwing a punch at a short, stout infected. It landed squarely on its face, and the stout creature was knocked down by the punch that looked effortless but carried the weight of a mountain.
Before Li Wei could even retract his fist, the infected, having formed a semi-circle, began swinging their arms, seemingly intent on slamming into him.
Relying on his superior agility and the time difference between his movements and the stiff actions of the infected, Li Wei dodged and weaved, avoiding all of the infected's seemingly light but actually heavy attacks.
When the attacks landed on other infected, they were knocked over instantly.
Given that the situation was dire, Li Wei didn't care if the virus on these infected would spread through contact; he grabbed the arm of one of the male infected and swung him around.
The man instantly collided with two other infected preparing to attack, and they all tumbled over each other.
At this moment, Li Wei realized that these people did not seem to fear pain; the first female infected he had kicked away climbed back up, and the short, stout infected he had knocked down with a heavy punch rejoined the ranks of those surrounding him.
Seeing this, Li Wei had no choice but to sigh in lament before he began to dodge and weave among the infected, using unadorned punches combined with a bit of keen eyesight to strike precisely at the throats of every infected individual.
With rapid, accurate punches and elbow strikes, he snapped the necks of these infected; aside from the short, stout infected whose neck was covered in tumors, which he dared not strike, Li Wei had "subdued" all of them.
The final short, stout infected was tripped by him, and with a forceful stomp, he crushed its brains.
Li Wei became increasingly certain that these things were zombies from movies, assuming no one was playing a prank on him...
He had just left work and discovered he had lost his keys, so he found a locksmith to make a strange key that looked like a toy; after opening the door, he had walked into a chilly laboratory, which had left him completely bewildered.
Having been locked in a cage and not having fought for several years, he was now forced to use his hands again, but since it was in self-defense, it shouldn't be considered a disgrace to Master Chen Hegao, right?
The plot of the Prototype world will have some modifications, and the settings have been partially altered.
Explanation: The Redlight virus is not the source of the black man's abilities in the second game; it is merely a translation error, as there is no mention of a Redlight virus in the game.
Blacklight: A new type of prototype virus that belongs to Elizabeth Greene as she, the mother, constantly mutated.
The protagonist's ability is a fan-made setting, explained as another pathogen extracted from Elizabeth Greene's body, which became a new type of mother strain after being rapidly evolved through human intervention.
Mother: Can autonomously evolve and develop new types of viruses through the original virus.
Elizabeth Greene (Prototype Mother) was also infected with the original DX-1118 A virus, but due to her unique constitution, she transformed into a mother.
