Supermarket Chaos

David heard Ollie's words and immediately shouted, "Turn off the lights! The monsters are drawn to light!"

Before many lights could be switched off, one of the glass panes was smashed open by a monster bird. Several mosquitoes flew inside, throwing the supermarket into instant chaos. All the lights beneath the glass wall were shut off.

After several mosquitoes flew into the supermarket, a monster bird followed through the opening. Shouts and terrified screams rang out without end.

The mosquitoes beat their wing cases and flew everywhere, like tigers entering a pen full of sheep, frightening the crowd into shrieking.

Following the emergency plan they had established beforehand, the electrician Jim led his apprentice in turning on the high-powered lamps they had prepared.

The supermarket became even brighter instead...

"Shoot it, Ollie!" Another monster bird landed at the shattered opening, and David hurriedly shouted.

But Ollie, the champion of precision shooting, cried out helplessly, "I can't! Shooting now will shatter more glass!"

With no other choice, David grabbed a mop soaked in fuel, intending to use fire to drive away the monster birds and mosquitoes that had entered the supermarket.

"Fire! Fire! Fire!" He kept shouting for fire. Someone ran over to light it with a lighter, but at the crucial moment, the lighter simply would not ignite.

The man named Joe was sweating profusely in panic as well, fiddling with the lighter over and over, but he still could not light the torch.

It was not until Amanda arrived, having dealt with a mosquito using a rake, that she lit the mop with another igniter.

David's face brightened when he picked up the burning mop, and he rushed toward the monster bird.

But when he saw the second monster bird, a man was already lying on the ground. It seemed everything had come too late.

Seeing the man on the ground with blood gushing from his neck, David wore a grief-stricken expression and began striking the monster bird with the burning mop.

The mop, which might as well have been a divine weapon, had virtually no effect on the monster bird. It was not as afraid of fire as they had imagined!

The scorched monster bird merely let out a hoarse cry from its throat and cleverly used its wings to block David's mop.

Amanda, arriving just in time once again, sprayed fuel burning with charcoal onto the monster bird. Under the mop's open flames, the monster bird's body ignited instantly.

The continuous burning finally made the monster bird feel pain. Flapping its wings, it began crashing wildly through the supermarket.

While things were in chaos on this side, an accident occurred on the other. Joe lit another mop, but as he prepared to seek out the monsters and fight them, he accidentally stepped on something and fell, knocking over the iron barrel of fuel.

Half a barrel of fuel soaked his body. The lit mop fell to the ground, and together, the two turned him into a human torch that rose to its feet and began crashing wildly through the supermarket as well.

Bang!

A gunshot suddenly rang out. Ollie, the only person in the supermarket with a gun, had fired, hitting the first monster bird that had flown in.

The two blazing fires were incredibly conspicuous, especially the human torch screaming continuously as he burned. When the supermarket manager saw him, he cursed under his breath and shouted, "Fire extinguisher! Bring a fire extinguisher!"

White dry powder sprayed from the side of a shelf onto the human torch. Li Wei emerged carrying a fire extinguisher and shouted, "Get on the ground!"

Joe, in unbearable pain from the burns, dropped to the floor and endured the shower of dry powder. Though the flames on his body were extinguished, the agony of the blaze still lingered in him.

After putting out the fire on Joe, Li Wei carried the extinguisher into the central aisle and put out the flames burning on the floor as well.

His hearing picked up a strange sound. He turned to the left and saw a monster bird staggering toward him.

Using thirty percent of his strength, he swung the fire extinguisher at the monster bird. The extinguisher, transformed into a high-speed projectile, struck the monster bird's hideous head in the next instant.

Still carrying its momentum, it sent the monster bird flying backward before slamming into the freezer at the very back of the supermarket with a thunderous boom like an exploding shell.

The monster bird favored by the fire extinguisher collided with the freezer, bursting into a spray of blood that splashed all over the panting Ollie chasing after it.

Ollie was startled by the deafening crash. Blood splattered across his face, and his feet slipped beneath him, sending him to the ground with a pained expression.

Li Wei casually grabbed a can from the shelf and kept walking forward. Seeing David still trying to smash the already-dead monster bird with the little stick in his hand, he could not help shaking his head.

Near the checkout counters, he saw Wayne, dressed in a military uniform, kneeling on the floor and weeping in grief for Sally, his close female friend, whose neck was swollen beyond recognition. He shook his head again.

Li Wei threw the can in his hand, smashing a mosquito trying to fly in through the gap into a lump of green paste.

Several men carried over a wooden board. Under the supermarket manager's direction, they finally managed to seal the opening.

A mutated mosquito landed on Carmody's abdomen as she muttered under her breath, making her entire body stiffen for a moment.

Feeling the mosquito continue to crawl upward, Carmody gradually revealed a relieved expression. She raised both hands and said as if resigning herself to fate, "My life, my life I give to you, and your wish shall be fulfilled!"

After the giant mosquito crawled onto Carmody's chest, it flew up again. Its nearly human face met Carmody's gaze for a moment, then it actually turned and flew away!

This action seemed to greatly encourage Carmody. She let out a relieved laugh, kept her raised hands held high, and wore a smile that was both that of someone surviving a disaster and one of morbid madness. "Ha! Hahaha! Thank the Lord for His mercy. Your faithful believer will serve You forever and ever!"

Many people witnessed this scene, and after fearing for their lives all day, they could not help thinking, Maybe she is right.

Then Li Wei blew apart the giant mosquito that had not yet flown far away with a can. Green fluid sprayed in every direction, splattering Carmody's face.

If the body fluid of these mutated mosquitoes had been corrosive, Carmody might already have been disfigured. The fluid did not disfigure her, but it did make her collapse to the ground and retch repeatedly.

Li Wei passed by her, using whatever he grabbed along the way to eliminate the mosquitoes one by one, with no intention of saving any for research.

Once he went out tomorrow, he could absorb as much of this stuff as he wanted. There was absolutely no need to worry about the quantity.

The sudden chaos lasted around fifteen minutes. All the mosquitoes were eliminated, and the places that had caught fire were put out with extinguishers. People gradually calmed down and gathered together again, but clear divisions had formed between them, creating several separate camps.

David, Brent, and the others formed one group. Several women gathered around Carmody, and they had clearly become her followers. Most of the remaining people clustered together into a loose collective.

But they did not realize these groups had formed. Aside from Carmody constantly preaching and bewitching people at the side, everyone else was focused solely on whether they themselves were safe.

After tidying up the wrecked supermarket, they lay down again.

But this time, no one could fall asleep...

Li Wei no longer had any desire to rest either. He walked toward the freezers at the back, intending to find something to drink.

As he passed Aisle Six, the corner of his eye caught sight of a somewhat familiar short-haired woman stuffing a small orange bottle into her mouth.

He assumed it was some kind of candy and paid it no mind. But when he returned after getting his cola, the woman who had been taking "candy" was dead...
