Background / History

Moria entered the New World at the head of the Moria Pirates and advanced into Wano Country with near-unstoppable momentum. At this point in his life, he was lean rather than the bloated, deformed figure he would later become, and considered only the Beasts Pirates and Kaido to be worthy enemies. 315

He used the Shadow-Shadow Fruit to place a stolen shadow in Kozuki Oden's corpse, turning Oden into a puppet. The resulting “resurrection” allowed Moria to defeat Jack the Drought, but it also provoked Kaido's intervention in Kuri. 312 313

Appearance

During the Wano campaign, Moria was a large but physically fit man with onion-shaped hair and two demon-like horns on his forehead. He carried a pair of scissors and commanded his forces from Oden Castle's ruins. 315

Personality

Moria is arrogant and dismissive toward opponents he considers insignificant, treating local Wano bandits as beneath his attention. He is ambitious enough to envision his crew supplanting the Beasts Pirates as a ruling force of the sea. 315

His confidence collapses when faced with Kaido's overwhelming strength. After recognizing that he could not profit from the battle between Kaido and Longinus, he withdrew rather than risk further confrontation. 317

The destruction of most of his crew reshaped his ambitions. Moria concluded that living followers could be lost, and began pursuing an army of undead immortals led by stronger Shadow Samurai. 318

Shadow-Shadow Fruit

Moria controlled shadows through the Shadow-Shadow Fruit. He could remove a person's shadow, implant it into a corpse, and control the resulting animated body through that shadow's influence. 313

Wano Conflict

Moria's use of Oden's corpse brought him into direct conflict with Kaido. He attacked Kaido with Shadow Horn Spear and Shadow Assassin, but neither technique harmed him. Kaido's Heat Breath severely burned Moria despite his attempt to switch places with his shadow. 315 316

Longinus interrupted Kaido's attempt to finish Moria, stating that he wanted to prevent Oden's body from being destroyed alongside him. Moria later retreated after witnessing the clash between Longinus and Kaido, concluding that neither combatant could be safely challenged even if wounded. 316 317

Death and Loss of the Shadow-Shadow Fruit

After returning to his base with only a few surviving subordinates, Moria resolved to build an immortal undead legion and searched for a powerful swordsman's shadow. Apophis appeared in response to Moria's desire for his shadow, tested his new Door-Door Fruit ability, and struck Moria through the chest from an unseen position. 318

Moria's death released the shadow controlling Oden's corpse. Apophis then acquired the Shadow-Shadow Fruit. 319 334
