Background / History

During the ancient era before Azeroth's Sundering, the Mogu dominated Pandaria through conquest and enslavement. Their empire depended on the labor of weaker races, including the Pandaren; a mass revolt by those enslaved peoples would later become the foundation of the Mogu Empire's collapse. 3 40

The Mogu used the Titan creation Nalak'sha to develop the Flesh Curse, a dark transformative art that slaughtered millions and weakened the Pandaren into more vulnerable forms. Mogu descendants capable of wielding the Art of Flesh could be granted the title of “Hero.” 3

Under the Thunder King, the empire conscripted Pandaren to construct the Wandering Isle and maintained slave camps such as the Great Wall Camp. Escapees were systematically hunted down by Mogu forces. 1 3

Later, the Thunder King ordered a “cleansing” of Pandaria before pursuing expansion against the Zandalari and Ophidian powers. The Angu Iron Cavalry was assigned to purge Kun-Lai Summit and the Emerald Forest, regions the Mogu considered comparatively easy targets. 27

Mogu are consistently portrayed as physically imposing, towering over Pandaren and projecting significant pressure in combat. Stronger Mogu are said to be taller. 3
