Third Food War (10)
Outskirts of the Ishgar Camp on Godeswet Mountain
Compared to the tense battle in the ambush jungle, the atmosphere here was much more relaxed and comfortable. The Evil Dragon of the Western Continent at the foot of the mountain sat on the ground, quietly gazing up at the camp on the mountaintop, while Yate and his men on the mountaintop stood on the walls, looking down at the lazy crowd below. The two sides stood in silent confrontation, showing no intention of starting a war.
"Yate, what are these guys up to? Why don't they attack?" (Burz)
"They are waiting, waiting for us to let our guard down, and then they will seize the opportunity to attack and take the camp in one fell swoop." (Maser)
"Hmph! They're wasting their time; we won't give them that chance!" (Livia)
Yate, the most intelligent among them, listened quietly to the discussion without uttering a word, as if he were an outsider, as if everything here had nothing to do with him. However, he didn't remain an outsider for long, because Maser was also highly intelligent and observant, noticed his unusual behavior.
"Yate, what's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything?"
Drawn out of his thoughts, Yate glanced at Maser and then asked, "Maser, do you think these guys down the mountain are really here to attack us?"
"They went to great lengths to conceal their movements, quietly approaching us, and deployed two-thirds of their forces to surround us like an impenetrable fortress. If their target wasn't us, was it necessary to do this?" (Maser)
"But since Phil left, they retreated from outside the camp into the jungle. All we can see are those on the outermost perimeter; we can't track down the others." (Yate)
"You mean, under the cover of the jungle, they moved the main force elsewhere, leaving only these people on the perimeter to monitor us?" (Maser)
"Isn't that a possibility?" (Yate)
"But there's nobody here except us. What's the point of them transferring such a large force away?" (Maser)
"Could it be that their target isn't us, but rather Sage Dragon's reinforcements? (Burz)"
"What? (Livia)"
After being reminded by Burz and Yate, Maser finally realized that they had been drawn into a huge conspiracy and were being used as pawns to lure the Sage Dragon into a trap.
"Yate, we must find a way to tell Sage Dragon the truth, we can't let them fall into the enemy's trap!" (Maser)
Yate shook his head at Maser and said, "It's too late! You see!"
Following the direction Yate pointed, Maser saw that the enemies who had been lying lazily on the ground had all stood up and were slowly approaching their location.
"Yate, weren't they targeting Sage Dragon Dragon's reinforcements? Why are they attacking us instead?" (Burz)
Before Yate could speak, Maser, who had figured everything out, said, "The reinforcements must have seen through their trick and didn't enter the ambush zone. In order to force the reinforcements to continue advancing, they sent troops to attack us."
"Will attacking us force reinforcements to advance? (Livia)"
"You idiot! The reinforcements are here to rescue us. If our situation becomes critical, they will have no choice but to keep advancing." (Burz)
"So what should we do now? (Livia)"
"What to do? Of course, we fight! (Yate)"
Outskirts of the Godeswet Mountain
"Commander, listen!"
Even without the brigade commander's reminder, Xizhalansa had already noticed the commotion in the distance. At this moment, he was even more certain that there were enemies lying in ambush in the jungle ahead, because this battle had come at just the right time! However, even though he had seen through the enemy's trick, he had no choice but to jump into the trap, because the purpose of his operation was to rescue the North Camp, and he naturally could not stand by and watch the North Camp fall.
"First Brigade Commander, immediately report the situation here to Lord Sacred Dragon and ask him to come and provide support!"
"Yes!"
After watching the first brigade commander leave, Xizhalansa ordered the remaining two brigade commanders, "Second brigade commander, immediately take your men forward to scout and find a way around this jungle."
"Yes!"
"Third Brigade Commander, you must immediately go to the rear to oversee the defenses and ensure the safety of the army's rear."
"Yes!"
"Listen up, everyone! Form a circular defensive array and advance slowly!"
"Yes!"
Under the orders of Xizhalansa, the First Division began to move from a stationary state to a mobile state. Although the speed was not fast, it was gradually approaching the jungle.
Looking at the First Division moving at a snail's pace outside, Delsd was both anxious and angry, but he couldn't move or make a sound. So he could only stare angrily at Xizhalansa in front of the column and mentally beat him up.
"Lord Delsd, the enemy has moved forward, but they are not heading this way!"
"My eyes aren't blind, do I need you to remind me!"
"Lord Delsd, we need to find a way to get them into the jungle, otherwise our ambush will be pointless."
"Why are you rushing me? I'm thinking about it right now."
Upon seeing Delsd's fury, the person who had asked the question obediently shut his mouth, not daring to utter another sound.
After a moment, Delsd opened his eyes, who had been deep in thought, and said to the person beside him, "Go to the North Camp immediately and tell Goodpes that the offensive is not fierce enough. Tell him to intensify it."
"Yes, sir! I'll take care of it right away!"
As Acnologia led the Second Division toward the Godesweit Mountains, two dark figures suddenly appeared in the sky ahead. Like Xizhalansa, after that ambush, the Sacred Dragon had become much more cautious, so he immediately ordered his troops to halt their advance, deploy into a defensive formation, and wait for the dark figures to arrive.
A moment later, the dark figure arrived in front of the group. As the distance closed and the light improved, the Sacred Dragon recognized the newcomer.
"Everyone, disperse and rest where you are!"
After ordering everyone to disperse, Sacred Dragon immediately went to greet the two of them.
"Dales, didn't I send you to scout out the situation? How did you end up with Ejifei?"
"Sacred Dragon Lord, this is what happened. I encountered Ejifei, who was looking for you, while on my reconnaissance mission, so I brought him to see you!"
Upon hearing Dales ' report, Acnologia immediately realized that the First Division of Xizhalansa must have encountered some trouble. He hurriedly asked, "Ejifei, has something happened in Xizhalansa?"
"Lord Sacred Dragon, not long ago, the division commander led the First Division safely to the outskirts of the Godeswet Mountain. However, the division commander discovered that the enemy was lying in ambush on the only road ahead, so he ordered us to stop and find a safe route. Unexpectedly, the enemy launched an attack on the North Camp at this time. Fearing that something might happen to the North Camp, the division commander led the First Division to proceed slowly along the explored road, while sending his subordinates to ask Sacred Dragon for help."
"What did you say? Xizhalansa launched a rash attack without knowing the enemy's situation?"
"Yes!"
"That bastard Xizhalansa, does he want the First Division to be taken prisoner again?"
"Sacred Dragon, things have come to this point. It would be best if you led the Second Division to support the Commander. As for the issue of being reckless, you can discuss that with the Commander after we are out of danger!"
"That's the only way! Everyone, assemble!"
After sealing and archiving the raging fire of ignorance within his heart, Acnologia turned and gave the order to assemble to all members of the Second Division. Moments later, the assembled Second Division, led by Ejifei, rapidly advanced towards the ambush in the jungle.
After a quarter of an hour's forced march, the Second Division finally arrived at the ambush jungle, but the sight before them completely stunned Sacred Dragon, Dales, and Ejifei. Not far ahead, two large armies were intertwined like a Swiss roll, each encircling the other.
At this moment, Sacred Dragon was no longer in the mood to reprimand Ejifei for his crime of falsely reporting military intelligence. He quickly ordered the Second Division to deploy into battle formation and go to assist in the battle.
"Listen up, everyone! Activate the wedge formation. The First Brigade will be the spearhead, and the Second and Third Brigades will form the flanks. Our objective is to rescue people, so we must break through the enemy's lines as quickly as possible, support the First Division's breakout, and then withdraw. Understand?"
"Clear!"
"Alright! Let's move out!"
With the order to act given, the Second Division charged straight into the battlefield amidst the chaos, like an arrow released from a bow.
"Lord Delsd, look!"
"Um?"
Delsd, caught up in the heat of battle, turned around in surprise at his subordinates' shouts, only to witness the 2nd Division charging into the fray like tigers descending a mountain. Watching the enemy move with unparalleled ease, rescuing the trapped members of the 1st Division one by one and reorganizing them into an elite force, Delsd instantly sensed danger.
"Go immediately and inform Goodpes to stop his attack on the North Camp and lead a thousand men to come and help!"
"Yes, sir!"
North Camp
After launching a fierce attack, the Evil Dragon of the Western Continent who had surrounded the camp slowly withdrew.
"Haha! Come on, you bastards from the Western Continent!"
"You cowards from the Western Continent, hurry home and get some sleep! You can't possibly conquer the North Camp!"
"Ha ha!"
The victorious defenders made faces and taunted the slowly retreating Evil Dragon of the Western Continent, as if the battle had never taken place, but rather been a game. However, Yate, standing on the stockade wall, was not in such high spirits, for he discovered that the Western Continent forces had once again retreated into the jungle, concealing their numbers once more.
"Yate, we've won!"
Maser came excitedly to report the victory, only to find her old friend frowning, as if something was on his mind.
"Yate, what's wrong?"
Yate stared at the jungle below the mountain and said gravely, "Maser, the enemy has entered the jungle again!"
