The First Mentor

Lefiya Viridis.

She was the elf girl who had followed beside Ais that morning like an attendant.

Though she was not present, the elf girl's standing in the minds of the Familia's executives and leaders was quite significant.

The reason was simple.

Although she was one of the younger members of the Loki Familia, she had received a proper education in the School District. By the time she joined the Familia, she had already received a Blessing, unlike Riezel, who had joined as an ordinary person with nothing to his name.

This elf girl was a proper Mage. Not only did she possess exceptionally high Magic and powerful spells, she also had a skill specifically meant to boost the power of her magic. As a rear-guard Mage, she was practically perfect. Though she was only Lv.3 and not a Lv.5 First Class Adventurer, her skills and outstanding Magic gave her firepower comparable to a Lv.5 First Class Mage.

In other words, Lefiya was a genius whose talent for magic had been completely maxed out. Even as a junior member of the Familia, this elf Mage was highly valued by its leaders and executives.

Especially Riveria, who was also a Mage and an Elf. She had subtly begun cultivating this junior as her successor.

And who was Riveria?

She was Elf Royalty, Orario's Strongest Mage, and the vice-captain of the Loki Familia. She was covered in accolades.

As the successor to someone like that, Lefiya's minimum future achievement would be becoming the Familia's second-in-command. She might even succeed Riveria as the strongest Mage and become renowned throughout the world.

As a magical genius, Lefiya not only possessed all three magic slots, but one of her spells was especially unusual.

It was Summoning Magic that could invoke spells limited to the Elf race. As long as she completely mastered a spell's effects and chant, she could cast any Elf spell—Elf Ring.

Among the Loki Familia members previously mentioned as being able to use more than three spells, the special individual who could theoretically use all Elf magic was Lefiya.

And now, Loki was saying that Riezel's magic was somewhat similar to Lefiya's Elf Ring?

Didn't that mean this newcomer, like Lefiya, possessed magic that allowed him to cast other people's spells as long as he fully understood their effects and chants?

"This is truly surprising."

Gareth could not help but marvel.

"Indeed." Riveria sighed as well. "I never expected there to be another Mage like Lefiya."

"A Mage? Him?" Loki's mouth twitched. "Don't joke around. This brat has nothing in common with the kind of Mage who stays safely in the rear and obediently casts spells!"

Thinking of Riezel's rapidly developing Ability Value tendencies gave Loki a headache.

"I'd say this brat is the same type as Ais. Both are problem children who will never settle down unless they're charging into a horde of monsters and slaughtering everything in sight."

Loki's words made everyone look at Riezel with subtly complicated expressions.

"The same type as Ais?"

"Seriously?"

The Amazon sisters muttered among themselves.

Even Bete frowned, while Finn tapped his Fingers against the office desk, seemingly deep in thought.

Riezel and Ais met each other's eyes again as if by mutual agreement. He immediately looked away, while she remained expressionless, a faint glimmer stirring in her golden eyes.

"Like me...?"

Ais recalled the inexplicably similar look in Riezel's eyes that morning, as though he had been looking into a Mirror of herself.

For some reason, an inexplicable and strange silence filled God's Chamber.

"Alright, stop overthinking it, you little brats." Loki clapped her hands and drew everyone's attention back. "First, let's solve this brat's problem. Which one of you is going to teach him magic?"

The moment that question came up, two people immediately withdrew.

"Don't count on me." Bete said coldly, "I have nothing to teach some small fry like him."

As he spoke, Bete seemed to have touched on a sore spot. He did not even stay any longer and simply left God's Chamber.

No one said anything as they watched him go.

Clearly, as members of the same Familia, they also believed Bete was not suited to remain here any longer, so they simply let him leave.

"I can't either."

The second to withdraw was the cheerful and lively Tiona.

However, her reason was different from Bete's.

"I don't have magic. Even if you want me to teach him, I have nothing I can teach him, right?"

Tiona looked utterly dejected, her face full of resentment.

Magic was that kind of power. Some people awakened it from the very beginning, while others might never find the opportunity to awaken it and remain unable to do so for their entire lives.

Tiona was clearly the latter. Even though she was already a Lv.5 First Class Adventurer, she was still a pure close-combat fighter who could not use even a single spell.

"Then Finn, Riveria, Gareth, and Tione will teach him?"

Loki confirmed this.

"I should probably pass." Finn considered it carefully before shaking his head with some regret. "My magic's side effects are too obvious. It isn't suitable for a new adventurer to use. He'd be better off not learning my magic."

"If the captain says so, then I'll pass too." Tione immediately followed Finn's lead. "My magic doesn't have much power anyway. If I'm the one teaching him, Riveria would be a much better choice."

"Right, that stubborn Elf is perfect for it." Gareth laughed. "She's always worrying over the younger ones like a mother anyway, so let her train him."

"Who are you calling a mother!?" Riveria shot Gareth a glare, but she did not reject the proposal.

If she could add a powerful rear-guard Mage to the Familia, she certainly would not refuse. Not to mention that he was a talented newcomer like Lefiya, one who appeared to have even fewer restrictions than Lefiya.

Lefiya's Elf Ring was ultimately limited to the Elf race. She could only learn and use Elf magic.

As for Riezel's magic, Loki's attitude of asking everyone present made it clear that it was absolutely not restricted by race.

There were Elves, Pallums, Dwarves, Amazons, and Beastmen here, with magic from every race. If Riezel could learn everyone's magic here, it would be almost equivalent to being able to learn every spell in the world.

That kind of potential, that kind of talent, far surpassed Lefiya's.

Naturally, Riveria could not possibly ignore such a promising prospect.

And as Elf Royalty known as the Nine Magic Princess and Orario's Strongest Mage, no one would refuse the chance to learn Riveria's magic if they had the means.

Just as everyone was thinking that, Riezel suddenly spoke.

"Can I learn magic from Miss Ais?"

Yes.

Not only did Riezel refuse, he set his sights on the Doll Girl whom Loki and the others had not mentioned at all.

"Me?"

Ais froze.

The others fell silent as well, then frowned in unison.

Even Loki was no exception.

"Kid." Loki looked as though she wanted to say something but held herself back. "I think you should choose someone else."

"That's right." Finn agreed, his expression calm. "Ais's magic is somewhat special. Even if your magic lets you learn and use other people's magic, there's no guarantee you'll be able to successfully learn Ais's magic."

The others also looked at Riezel strangely, then at Ais, exchanging glances.

Only Tiona spoke up with a puzzled expression.

"Isn't that great? Ais's magic is so powerful. If little brother can learn it, our Familia will have two superhuman-level Combat power members in the future."

The moment Tiona finished speaking, Tione covered her mouth.

"You should say less."

Ignoring Tiona's struggles, Tione dragged her away.

"I'll teach you instead." Riveria watched Riezel and said, "Ais's magic is dangerous to use in certain ways. Even if you can learn it, I wouldn't recommend that you use it."

"Besides."

Besides, Ais might not want to teach it.

Ais's magic held extraordinary significance for her.

Riveria did not say those words aloud. She only turned toward Ais.

Ais had lowered her head, making it impossible to see her expression.

The atmosphere in God's Chamber shifted once more in a subtle way.

Riezel was not surprised. Instead, he muttered inwardly.

As expected, this is a sensitive matter?

As someone who knew the original story, Riezel naturally understood why everyone reacted that way when he said he wanted to learn Ais's magic.

Tiona and Tione were one thing. They probably did not know the hidden circumstances involved.

But The Big Three, who led the Familia, and Loki, their goddess, definitely understood Ais's situation.

Riezel knew all that, yet he still made the request.

There was only one reason.

"I've heard about Miss Ais's type of magic, and I believe it is the power most suitable for me at my current stage."

Riezel shifted his gaze to Ais and spoke with sincerity and composure.

"Though this may be abrupt and perhaps unfair to ask of you, it is important to me. Could Miss Ais please accept my request?"

After saying that, Riezel hesitated before adding another sentence.

"I truly want to become stronger as quickly as possible."

Everyone present could easily feel the weight contained in those words.

"Become stronger as quickly as possible."

Ais was finally moved and raised her head.

For the third time that day, their eyes met.

The others fell silent and said nothing more.

Silence spread through God's Chamber.

Only after a long while did Ais slowly speak.

"I'll teach you."

When Ais's words rang out, Riezel bowed to her and offered his thanks.

And so, Riezel gained the first mentor of his life.
