Li Feng saw the Priest's confusion and sneered. "Blind Priest, don't tell me you're holding a fake. How about letting me take a look?"
The Priest admitted that he was blind. He had actually mistaken an extremely dangerous Demon for a slightly dangerous Dark Witch. If that was not blindness, what was?
But he still hesitated to hand the spellbook over to Li Feng. No matter how he looked at it, Li Feng, who could fire burning playing cards, was a wizard—an heretic. What if Li Feng's goal was the same as the Demon's, to obtain The Key of Solomon?
Li Feng was in no hurry. He could see that although Mordo was no match for Hegma, Hegma could not deal with Mordo anytime soon either. So, while occasionally using playing cards to disrupt Hegma's attacks and give Mordo a breather, Li Feng said to Beman, "For the sake of our pleasant experience hunting down a Demon clone together, aren't you going to help Mordo? Then we can get rid of the Demon sooner."
Beman glanced at Li Feng, then at Hegma, and thought to himself: No matter what, Li Feng is probably, maybe, perhaps human. After all, I can't see through his disguise.
Compared with Demons, even if humans are evil, they can only be so evil. At most, The Church that rules humanity will be replaced by Li Feng and Mordo. Things are already this bad—how much worse can they get?
But Demons are invasive species from outside. They will destroy humanity's living environment. If every human dies, what future is there to talk about...
With that in mind, Beman signaled Felson with his eyes to protect the Priest, then charged at Hegma with his longsword.
Not far away, the somewhat disheveled Mordo breathed a sigh of relief after Beman joined the fight. He could not help shouting at the Priest, "Is your ritual ready or not? Why haven't you gotten rid of the Demon yet?"
Mordo's words made the Priest grit his teeth and make up his mind. He handed The Key of Solomon spellbook to Li Feng. If they did not deal with the Demon, The Key of Solomon would fall into the Demon's hands. Compared to that, giving it to Li Feng, a human heretic, was the better choice.
Li Feng was human, after all. At worst, The Church could send troops to hunt down Li Feng and Mordo. The Priest refused to believe that Li Feng and Mordo could cause any trouble before a great army.
Taking the spellbook, Li Feng narrowed his eyes and carefully ran his fingers over it. Then he said with a bitter smile, "I understand why the incantation didn't work."
After saying that, Li Feng returned the spellbook to the Priest. As he quietly opened a Portal the size of a matchbox so the spellbook could connect to God, he said, "Now, hurry up and recite the incantation to weaken the Demon."
The Priest took back the spellbook and sighed in relief. At least the book wasn't lost.
"Weaken it? Wasn't it supposed to destroy it?"
Though confused, the Priest muttered to himself before obediently beginning the incantation.
Li Feng shrugged and explained, "If we were facing a Demon clone, the incantation really could destroy it. But what appeared now is the Demon's true body. This incantation can only weaken it."
The instant Hegma sensed that his connection to Hell had been restored, he abandoned Mordo and Beman. He forcibly took one attack from both of them before pouncing toward the Priest.
His true body was here. Although the spellbook could only weaken him, how could he afford to have his strength suddenly weakened in the middle of a fight? Once he died, he would truly be saying farewell to the world. Seizing The Key of Solomon had therefore become Hegma's highest priority.
As for Felson and Li Feng, whom he would have to face to seize the spellbook, Hegma held them in contempt. One was an ordinary human—an ordinary human without even a weapon capable of harming him. Why would he care?
And then there was Li Feng. Judging from the past few days of teaching and the questions Li Feng had asked, this guy was merely a novice on the path of magic. He was equally beneath notice.
Yet the novice Mage whom Hegma considered beneath notice curled his lips slightly as Hegma lunged toward him. "The spell I prepared when I opened the Portal has been waiting so long it's starving. You still want my body? You idiot Demon."
The moment Li Feng finished speaking, he twisted aside to evade Hegma's claws and raised a hand, shooting a mass of water-like substance straight at Hegma's face.
Hegma was far too close to Li Feng for Li Feng to miss. After the water-like substance splashed across Hegma's face, the Demon seemed to have been possessed by a snail. Every movement he made became like slow-motion footage.
Keeping up his Mana output, Li Feng dropped to one knee. While stabilizing his Mana to maintain the Time Slowing Spell, he shouted to Mordo and the Priest, "Hurry and finish the ritual! Mordo, open a Portal and control the Demon's movements! Every time he moves, my Mana consumption doubles. I can't keep the Portal stable!"
The Priest also realized the urgency of the situation and sped up his chanting. Seeing that Li Feng's Portal was about to disperse, Mordo opened a Portal with one hand while using the Magic Artifact in his other hand like a spear, viciously smashing it into Hegma's heart.
Hegma felt a little panicked—only a little. More than that, he could not believe his eyes. What was he seeing?!
As Hegma struggled to break free of the Time Spell, he greedily stared at Li Feng and said, "A Time Spell! You know a Time Spell, and that Space Spell from before... The more I look at you, the more perfect your body seems."
Every world had its own laws, and in this world, Holy Water was what could inflict the greatest damage on Demons.
Although Mordo's Short Staff was a Magic Artifact, it was a blunt weapon. Its damage was not even comparable to Li Feng's sharp Magic Longsword.
Mordo smashed the Short Staff into the Demon's chest several times, beating Hegma until he spat out several mouthfuls of blood. Only then did Hegma finally break free of the Time Spell.
Patting his chest, Hegma showed that Mordo had only inflicted minor injuries on him. With a Demon's recovery speed, such wounds were nothing.
Just as Hegma was about to charge Li Feng again and forcibly take over Li Feng's body, the Priest finally finished the incantation. "Amen."
The moment Mordo sensed Hegma's strength weaken by more than half, he immediately closed the Portal, severing Hegma's connection to Hell once again.
This time, after suffering two consecutive weakenings, Hegma truly panicked. This was completely different from what he had expected: It's all that damned Priest's fault. If he hadn't kept babbling that incantation, would my strength have been weakened by over half? Fine. I may not be able to leave this Otherspace, but before I die, I'll fucking kill you, you blabbering Priest.
Then I'll hide my soul inside your corpse. I know this world has a custom of burying the dead. Once I leave this Otherspace and reconnect to Hell, just wait and see how I deal with all of you...
Hagman had clearly been lunging at Li Feng, yet he suddenly pounced at him instead. The Priest felt that, as an ordinary human, he was no match for Hagman at all, and was willing to obediently exit the stage and collect his death flag.
Though the Priest died, he bought Mordo and Beman enough time to kill Hagman. One in front and one behind, the two of them cut off the Demon's head.
Watching Hegma's body burst into flames after death and eventually turn into a pile of black ashes, Li Feng sighed in relief. "It's finally over."
Mordo glanced at Li Feng, then looked at the Priest's corpse. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly as he muttered inwardly, Are you sure it's over?
While secretly preparing a spell, Mordo said in a tone that suggested he knew Demons inside and out, "Think about how long it took the Demon to take over Hegma's corpse in the beginning."
Li Feng and Beman suddenly realized something. They instinctively looked toward the Priest's corpse, and the same thought arose in both their minds: Damn it, we still have to fight.
Having finished preparing his spell, Mordo secretly sighed in relief. Since you want to play dead, then you can really die...
With that thought, Mordo pointed at the Priest's corpse, causing it to be instantly swallowed by the Mirror Dimension.
Before the corpse vanished completely, Li Feng's eyelid twitched. He instinctively cast a spell, pulling The Key of Solomon spellbook from the Priest's hand. At the same time, Li Feng vaguely heard the Demon inside the Priest shout, "No—"
It could only be said that Mordo's mastery of Mirror Dimension spells exceeded Li Feng's imagination. At the very least, Li Feng could not alter the space within the Mirror Dimension as quickly or as covertly as Mordo. Perhaps before Li Feng even finished casting, the Demon, having sensed the magical fluctuations, would have leapt up and slapped him.
Of course, that was also because the Demon did not understand Kamar-Taj spells. Otherwise, why would it obediently wait after possessing the Priest, allowing Mordo to cast a spell and throw it into Otherspace to be crushed to death by spatial force?
Mordo looked around, slung the Short Staff back over his shoulder, and said, "Now it's truly over."
After saying that, Mordo opened a Portal and signaled everyone to leave the Mirror Dimension.
Li Feng was the last to leave the Mirror Dimension because he discovered that the black ash left behind after the Demon's death seemed to be high-quality spellcasting material. As a poor Mage, how could he possibly pass up spellcasting materials when he encountered them?
After Li Feng picked up The Key of Solomon spellbook from the ground and passed through the Portal, he saw Beman, his face full of questions, returning the longsword in his hand.
Li Feng thought it over. Now that everything was over and he had obtained The Key of Solomon spellbook, if Mordo was not in a hurry, he still wanted to learn some blade techniques from Beman. After all, the blade skills he had used earlier while cutting down the Demon's clone had been utterly embarrassing.
"Mordo, are you in a hurry to go home?"
Mordo looked at Li Feng, who was stroking the longsword, in confusion. After glancing at the blade, he guessed Li Feng's intentions and rolled his eyes. "We'll rest for one month before going home. Just one month."
Li Feng chuckled twice, sheathed the longsword at his waist, looked around at the others, and said to Beman, "I know you have plenty of questions that you want answered. In exchange, teach me swordsmanship, and I'll tell you everything I know."
Before Beman and Felson could speak, Kay was the first to ask excitedly, "Who are you? Wizards?"
Li Feng thought for a moment. Although Beman and Felson no longer trusted The Church's plans, they still believed in God. And after having just destroyed a Demon, their conviction in God's existence and their faith would likely only grow stronger. Still, considering their relationship with The Church, they probably would not reveal Li Feng and Mordo's existence to The Church.
Only Kay, this young acolyte, both trusted The Church and believed in God. If Li Feng did not use words to package himself into a radiant figure shining with holy light, Kay would probably turn around and report them to The Church. Li Feng could simply pat his ass and leave, but the Mages of this world would be in trouble.
"We come from a secret organization devoted to stopping and killing magical creatures from other worlds that harbor ill intentions."
At that, Li Feng pointed at the damaged Prison Wagon and said, "Demons count as magical creatures from the Otherworld as well. They're on our hunting list too."
