Background

Li Feng awakens in a New York hospital after a car accident and discovers that he has taken over the life of a Chinese-American youth also named Li Feng. The local records identify him as “Austin,” a New York-born second-generation Chinese-American whose parents died the previous year. Initially unable to understand English, he realizes that he has transmigrated into a foreign life rather than merely been sent abroad. 1

Searching his deceased parents’ room, Li Feng finds a Sling Ring, a Chinese spell notebook, and his grandfather’s diary. The diary reveals a family connection to magic and records three rudimentary spells: a short-range Portal, a limited Mirror Dimension, and brief Astral Projection. 2

His first Astral Projection exposes a dangerous mismatch between his current body and the soul from his former life: his astral form resembles a middle-aged, pot-bellied version of himself, and its connection to his physical body begins to fail. He concludes that the body and soul must gradually fuse before he can safely project again. 2

For two years, Li Feng lives frugally in Chinatown, working odd jobs to learn English while studying magical fundamentals and meditating at night. He eventually succeeds in casting magic and completes the fusion of his soul and body, but a malfunctioning Portal sends him into other worlds and begins his wider travels. 2 3

Appearance

Li Feng is a Chinese man with a youthful appearance and a noticeable small belly. Nick Fury initially remembers him most clearly for wearing slippers, while later encounters note his switch to boots. 45 46

  • Often carries a shoulder bag containing magical tools and supplies.
  • Uses disguises, invisibility, black mist transformation, and other magic to conceal his identity. 116 130
  • Wields a distinctive Scythe and has worn a Skull Mask in battle. 130 307
  • In his divine form, he becomes a roughly 2.5-meter tiger-headed humanoid. 451
  • His divine transformation can make his previous armor unusable due to his increased size. 468

Personality

Li Feng begins his new life cautious, adaptable, and intensely focused on survival. His early decisions—learning English, working for money, and patiently building a magical foundation—reflect practical self-preservation rather than heroic ambition. 2 3

He is blunt, irreverent, and fond of provoking others, particularly Nick Fury. He repeatedly uses Chinese tongue twisters to frustrate Fury’s attempts to interrogate him and habitually treats serious negotiations as opportunities for jokes or leverage. 15 17

As his power grows, Li Feng becomes increasingly opportunistic and ruthless. He extracts memories, enslaves enemies, spreads the magically enhanced Black Death against hostile survivors, manipulates minds, and admits that his pursuit of power and a route home has eroded his conscience. 129 158 213

Despite this, he is capable of loyalty and genuine compassion toward selected people. He risks himself to save Kreacher, heals Uncle Ben and Captain America without demanding payment, helps Frigga survive a mortal wound, and equips his followers with resources to grow stronger. 124 150 213 282 541

Abilities & Skills

Cultivation and mana control

Li Feng follows a cultivation path based on storing and refining mana inside his own body, unlike Kamar-Taj sorcerers who draw power from other dimensions. His mana has a dark affinity, which the Ancient One warns requires careful adaptation rather than reckless exposure to dark energy. 12 117 190

  • Purifies mana through Zhao Zheng’s cultivation method and the Eternal Spring. 120 121
  • Uses meditation and magical artifacts such as Merlin’s Ring to improve his internal reserves. 117 121
  • Can cast basic spells silently after refining his mana. 121
  • His finite internal mana can be exhausted, leaving him vulnerable against opponents who can endure his initial assault. 117

Spatial magic

Li Feng displays exceptional aptitude for spatial magic and rapidly develops under Mordo’s instruction. 20

  • Opens Portals for travel, rescue, combat positioning, and access to other worlds. 3 121 282

  • Can turn into black mist for flight and movement. 116
  • Uses Personal Space for storage and later for transporting people and equipment. 468 541

Time magic and precognition

Fire and destructive magic

Fire magic is one of Li Feng’s principal offensive specialties.

  • Forges Magic Playing Cards loaded with Fireball Spells; their curved trajectories make them difficult to evade. 13
  • Uses Fire Conjuration to ignite precise targets and enhance weapons. 22 121
  • Learns Burning Hands and other dark spells from a Demon. 27
  • Employs Fiendfyre, Hellfire, Spirit Fire, and Nuclear Reaction Fireballs. 170 246 312
  • Combines Time Stop, the Scythe, the Pseudo-Seraph Feather, and a Nuclear Reaction Fireball to defeat an Evil God. 312 313

Healing and regeneration

Li Feng develops potent healing magic, including techniques derived from light-based spell research. 246

  • Heals Uncle Ben’s injured foot. 150
  • Restores injured personnel after a S.H.I.E.L.D. crisis. 216
  • Saves Frigga by stopping time, supplying Angel Blood for an antidote, and expending recovery potions. 282 283
  • Regenerates his own arm after severing it to prevent corruption from spreading. 312
  • His resurrection magic is dangerous and may provoke Hell if improperly used. 138 226

Divine transformation and clones

After becoming a god, Li Feng gains Divine Magic centered on transformation. 450 451

  • Assumes a tiger-headed humanoid form with improved physical performance and reflexes. 451
  • Exerts limited deterrence over weaker undead, demons, and dark creatures. 451
