Demons and Gargoyle Monastery

And no matter how she looked at Li Feng and Mordo, neither seemed like a Mage powerful enough to shatter the barrier.

Ophiel ignored Li Feng's eye roll and gestured for him to head toward the lounge.

As for Mordo, the gentle Mana surrounding him had already shown that he was different from Li Feng. Compared to Li Feng, Leono was more interested in speaking with the approachable Mordo and indirectly learning about Li Feng's character.

However, before Li Feng had gone far, a Gargoyle hurried over to Leono and said, "Queen, traces of Demons have been found near the church."

Leono frowned. "How many Demons?"

"At least fifty."

The monastery had stood here for who knew how many years. The Demons had long known its location, but the number of times they had dared attack the monastery could be counted on one hand.

Leono instantly realized that the Demons were attacking the monastery for Adam. She simply did not understand why Demon Prince Naberius valued Adam so highly that he was willing to sacrifice his subordinates to obtain him.

But this was not the time for answers. Leono turned and ordered the Gargoyles, "Protect Adam. Everyone else, prepare to kill the Demons—and protect Adam."

Li Feng curled his lip. He knew why Naberius was attacking the monastery, but how was he supposed to say it?

That Naberius had been secretly collecting human corpses across the globe, intending to have his Hell army possess those dead bodies and then conquer Earth.

But because dead bodies were unsuitable for Demonic possession, Naberius wanted to learn why Adam's body was full of vitality despite lacking a soul. He wanted the human corpses he had collected to revive as vessels for Demonic possession. And because the revived bodies had no souls, the possessing Demons could unleash one hundred percent of their power in the human world.

Naberius had been searching for Adam's whereabouts for years. Until today, when Ophiel brought Adam back to the monastery, a Demon spotted them and informed Naberius. That was why the Demons had attacked the monastery.

Li Feng figured that the moment he said any of this, Leono would tie him up and interrogate him about how he knew such things and whether he was working with Naberius.

Li Feng glanced at Leono's retreating back and thought silently, Naberius does want to capture Adam, but the Demons are using a diversionary tactic. They'll capture you and use you to threaten the Gargoyles into handing over what they want.

Come to think of it, Demons haven't spent all these years in the human world for nothing. Since when did they start reading military books like The Art of War and learn to apply strategy? They're even pulling a diversion tactic now?

The moment Mordo learned that the Demons were attacking, he drew his weapon and prepared to join the force eliminating them. Free from the Chain and armed, Adam immediately charged at the Demons.

Li Feng pulled out his playing cards. As he shot down several Demons baring their fangs at him, he gave Adam a meaningful look. He knew that Adam would learn of the Demons' scheme in the coming battle and obtain Frankenstein's Experiment Notes. It seems I'll have an easier time getting the experiment notes if I follow Adam.

Li Feng then looked at Ophiel, who was fighting Demons, and thought, Should I ditch Ophiel and follow Adam to pick up the spoils?

Elsewhere, Julier, Naberius's top general, led several elite Demons around the Gargoyles in secret. They reached Leono and successfully took the Gargoyle Queen hostage.

Several Gargoyles who discovered Julier holding their Queen captive let out furious roars. But with their Queen in Julier's hands, there was nothing they could do beyond expressing their rage.

Soon, the news that the Queen had been taken hostage reached Ophiel's ears. Li Feng, standing beside Ophiel, learned of it as well.

Ophiel looked at Li Feng. He knew how precious this Magic Book was to the Gargoyles. It was practically a nuclear weapon against Demons.

After accepting The Key of Solomon and saying, "Thank you," Ophiel returned to his gray-white Gargoyle form, spread his wings, and shot into the sky.
