Background / History

Tang San enrolled at Nuoding Junior Academy alongside Duanmu Ci. There, Yu Xiaogang accepted him as a disciple, and Tang San declared that “one day as a master” made Yu Xiaogang “a lifetime” father. Duanmu Ci later covertly observed and copied Tang San’s Mysterious Heaven Skill and related arts. 4 5

He and Xiao Wu later traveled from Nuoding City to Soto City. Their partnership was already close, with Xiao Wu treating him as “Third Brother” and remaining fiercely protective of him. 19

Tang San’s conflict with Dugu Yan began after he countered her Jade Phosphorous Serpent poison. Dugu Bo captured him to learn how he had done so; Tang San used his knowledge of poisons to identify the Poison Douluo’s condition and bargain for survival. When the promised Immortal Herbs were absent from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Eye, Dugu Bo poisoned him and left him for dead. Tang San survived, but the ordeal left him deeply resentful of both Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan. 36 6 9

During the Spirit Master Tournament, Tang San repeatedly confronted Duanmu Ci and Imperial Dou Team 3. He fought with Shrek’s combined techniques, hidden weapons, Blue Silver Grass, and eventually the Clear Sky Hammer, but Duanmu Ci consistently overwhelmed him. 55 67 89

Duanmu Ci later killed Tang San by tearing out his heart. The Asura God King preserved Tang San’s remnant soul and selected him as a successor, rebuilding him in the Asura Blood Hell through three brutal refinements. Tang San severed his remaining attachments—including the phantoms of Yu Xiaogang, his Shrek companions, and Xiao Wu—to become a weapon driven solely by hatred for Duanmu Ci. 100 102 22

After returning to the Douluo Continent, the Asura-forged Tang San attacked Duanmu Ci with the Asura Demon Sword. Duanmu Ci repelled him, survived Tang San’s final Asura Blood Hell attack, and destroyed his head and body. Tang San’s soul was subsequently annihilated. 54 112

Following his Asura reconstruction, Tang San retained the outline of his former appearance but became visibly inhuman and saturated with killing intent. 102

Personality

Before his reforging, Tang San was polite and respectful toward Yu Xiaogang, decisive in cultivation, and highly resourceful when facing stronger opponents. Even while captured by Dugu Bo, he maintained enough composure to turn his knowledge of poison into leverage. 4 36

He was also intensely prideful and vengeful. Dugu Bo’s poisoning and Dugu Yan’s involvement became a lasting grievance, and Tang San intended to repay Dugu Yan’s perceived debt “tenfold” or “a hundredfold.” His humiliation at Duanmu Ci’s hands further sharpened his hatred. 6 55

The Asura God Trial erased those remaining human restraints. After the third refinement, hatred, destruction, and slaughter became his defining impulses; his former bonds were treated as weaknesses to be severed. 22 102
