I Want to Remold This Land
Borg had died of exhaustion.
His body had long been malnourished and could not withstand intense physical exertion. Earlier, he had also engaged in a fierce chase with Green.
After Borg's death, Romain gave him a proper burial.
This great thief might have been mad.
But on this land, he might also have been the least insane person.
Afterward, Romain invited Dick, Jet, and the others to live at his estate.
The two politely declined.
Romain did not press them. He merely told them that they would always be welcome.
After all, the meat was already in the pot. Sooner or later, he would be able to fish them out of the pool.
Romain had all the hunters assist the badly wounded guards back to Sigg Town.
Three guards had died in battle, and those whose injuries were too severe would no longer be able to carry out armed suppression duties.
All these casualties had been caused by Borg—an entirely unforeseen disaster.
It was frustrating, but there was nothing to be done.
Romain prepared to gather more soldiers.
The former guards simply could not meet his standards for an army.
This trip into the mountains had yielded several thousand pounds of meat.
It was barely enough for him to give the people of Sigg Town an explanation—otherwise, there would be no way to account for such heavy casualties.
The mountains around Sigg Town were rich in wild resources.
Brown bears, mountain deer, wild boars, wolves, and more amounted to enough for every resident to receive three pounds of meat. The haul had been quite plentiful.
In this era, nobles obtained part of their meat through hunting, while the rest came from farming and animal husbandry.
While butchering the magical beast's body, Romain discovered that killing it had increased his Hunting skill's experience. Basic methods of processing prey also surfaced in his mind.
But there was simply too much, and the transport would take an entire day tomorrow to finish—Romain generously gave every hunter family living in the mountains ten pounds of meat.
Unless it was salted and dried, this meat would be difficult to preserve for long.
Romain planned to have Sigg Town consume these resources as quickly as possible.
He left the forest with Gevra.
With that, the matters in the mountains came to an end.
Shasta did not leave with Romain. Deliberately avoiding the crowd, she made her way to Sigg Town's docks.
Morey had been waiting there for quite some time.
Seeing Shasta return safely, Morey let out a sigh of relief.
He had been on edge the entire time.
But Shasta's first words made his heart leap into his throat. "I met Romain Armor-Splitting."
Morey had already expected it. Romain's grand expedition into the mountains today could not possibly have been kept secret.
He immediately asked anxiously, "You didn't have any conflict, did you?"
Shasta replied blandly, "Almost."
Morey felt as if he had been struck by lightning. This Witch had not only exposed herself, but had nearly fought Romain as well?
Were you ever going to consider how I felt before being this bold?
Morey went numb. He kept glancing outside the Ship Cabin, terrified that Romain would appear the next second and surround his merchant ship with men.
A faint smile curved Shasta's lips. "Hmph! He seems like a decent person. You can come here often in the future."
Under Morey's stunned gaze, she offered no further explanation and simply waved for him to set sail quickly.
On a high hillside, Romain watched from afar as Morey's merchant ship sailed away from Sigg Town.
"Witch, merchant, church..."
Romain silently savored those words.
After looking down for a moment, he gave a soft snort and turned away.
In his eyes, nobles were all fools.
Farmers were simply a greater number of fools.
The King and the church were fools among fools.
The key to changing this era was in his hands.
Just wait! Just wait!
He would soon step forward and crush everything from the old world beneath his feet!
He would reshape this world in his own way, according to his own ideas!
He would redefine this land and establish a new order!
And in the process, he did not care how much blood the commoners would spill or how many lives they would sacrifice.
Nor did he care how many nobles would die because of it, or whether the King would kneel beneath the guillotine.
Even that lofty divine authority would be shattered beneath the iron hooves of the unstoppable tide to come.
He would use facts to tell everyone.
The era!
Was about to change!
He would strengthen the entire land through his own power alone!
Morey's merchant fleet sailed away from Sigg Town along the Bro River.
Heading north.
The river became turbulent and surging as it cut diagonally through Silver Dragon Canyon, but once it left those treacherous mountains and entered gentler terrain, its surface widened once more.
High in the sky, a massive Giant Eagle spread its wings and looked down upon the land with sharp eyes.
Following the winding, crisscrossing river, it spotted the merchant ships below. Then it let out an exceptionally piercing cry that tore through the sky before diving straight down.
Shasta left the Ship Cabin. Frowning as she looked up at the enormous Giant Eagle, she said:
"I wasn't able to bring out the sisters from Sigg Town."
The eagle circled the merchant ship for a moment. When it landed on the bow, the entire vessel swayed slightly. Its wild eyes suddenly became lively as it spoke in human words:
"You failed?"
"The Lord there stopped me."
"You handed the sisters over to him?"
"He promised me a noble contract."
"When the Prophetess Witch observed the entire land through the Magic Mirror, she discovered that the witch here possessed the spiritual potential to become a high-ranking witch, yet you did not bring her back?"
Shasta said calmly, "That child named Gevra possesses the power of misfortune and luck. She may have uses in other areas, but she is not suited for battle."
"Godslaying Operation is imminent. The power of any high-ranking witch cannot be underestimated."
"So you want Gevra to die young? To send her to her death? She looks weak, pitiful, and helpless. She cannot even become a qualified Warrior."
"Very well, my dear Shasta. I hope you are not simply overflowing with sympathy, but have your own considerations."
"Why did you come looking for me? Monster Beast Witch, you should have more important matters to attend to."
"The Prophetess Witch discovered that a new sister had awakened in the northern lands. Her spiritual radiance is so powerful that she is a miraculous individual unlike anything the Prophetess Witch has ever seen. She is highly likely to become a main force in Godslaying Operation. Every sister who could go has rushed there..."
"If that were all, there would be no need for you to come looking for me... Those bastards from the Church?"
"They must have sensed something as well. The Prophetess Witch said they dispatched a sixth-rank Dawn Knight named Keton, along with fifty Demon Hunter Knights."
"Are you joking?"
"My dear Shasta, that is why I came to assist you. You should understand the importance of Godslaying Operation to us. We must obtain her!"
Shasta leaped onto the Giant Eagle's back.
The Giant Eagle spread its wings, then soared into the sky, carrying her toward the distance.
"I am Shasta, the Nightmare Witch from Witch Forest. I am about to head to the northern lands to find the companion whom the Prophetess Witch calls a miraculous individual and train her into a qualified Warrior..."
"If the Church truly worships a god, then we will kill that so-called god... That is where the name Godslaying Operation came from... Perhaps compared to the colossal entity that is the Church, the power of witches is insignificant..."
"But we can no longer sit still and await death. Awakened witches are constantly being killed, and our strength is growing weaker and weaker. If next year's Godslaying Operation succeeds, it will surely change the future circumstances of witches..."
"I hope this journey goes smoothly!"
