Lucius glanced at Old Selwyn. Soldaiya challenging Moriarty had never been part of their plan!
Old Selwyn's expression turned dreadful. He looked at Soldaiya with both sorrow and rage. His grandson hated his son!
Merlin's beard, did the Selwyn Family even have a future?
"Mr. Moriarty, I deeply apologize for such rude and barbaric behavior occurring at my banquet. I am willing to compensate you for your displeasure."
Lucius glared viciously at Soldaiya. "No one lays a hand on a friend of Malfoy!"
Soldaiya smiled disdainfully. Such pretentiousness from Lucius! If even one punctuation mark in every ten sentences he spoke was true, they should thank Merlin.
That smile, as though he had seen through everything, caught Moriarty's attention. In Soldaiya, he saw a trace of his own reflection.
Moriarty began to take the boy before him seriously. He had long, glossy black hair, curled at the ends; a handsome face with thin lips; and amber eyes that conveyed intense focus, with several sharp glints flashing deep within them.
"Mr. Lucius, a true Slytherin does not fear challenges, nor has one ever needed another's protection. That has been the family rule established by our ancestor Salazar since the first Goblin Rebellions." As Moriarty spoke, he stared at Soldaiya. Before Lucius could respond, Soldaiya cut in, "Very well. That means you agree! This is the wisest choice you've ever made."
"Let us duel," Moriarty said calmly. He looked around at the surrounding crowd. "You are all witnesses."
Waves of low exclamations rose from the crowd. Lucius and Fudge exchanged a glance. Things had reached a point where they were becoming impossible to predict.
"Why did
