Overview

Dou Qi is the pre-Dou Zhe stage of cultivation. At this point, a practitioner possesses internal energy but has not yet condensed it into the Dou Qi vortex required for the Dou Zhe realm. Reaching Dou Zhe is treated as a qualitative change and the true beginning of cultivation 3 115.

The stage is commonly measured in numbered levels; the ninth stage is its peak. Xiao Yan was documented at the third stage, later rose to the fourth and ninth stages, and ultimately broke through from the peak ninth stage into Dou Zhe 74 165.

Breakthrough to Dou Zhe

• The breakthrough is dangerous because it transforms the practitioner's energy into a new qualitative state 115.
• The vortex formed at this stage becomes the foundation for future cultivation and strongly influences later achievements 116.
• A fourth-grade Qi Gathering Powder can guarantee a ninth-stage practitioner's breakthrough to Dou Zhe by helping form the vortex 165.

Known Practitioners

• Xiao Yan — Was listed at the third stage of Dou Qi when an assassination bounty was posted against him 74. He later advanced from the fourth stage to the ninth stage in roughly a month, then used Qi Gathering Powder to reach Dou Zhe Four Stars 165.
• Little Doctor Fairy — Advanced from the lower stages to the ninth stage over six months, then entered the Dou Zhe realm with the aid of Qi Gathering Powder 32.
• Gu Xun Er — Reached the ninth stage before directly condensing a Dou Qi vortex and advancing to Dou Zhe 133.
• Qing Lin — Reached the peak of the stage before attempting her breakthrough in the Heavenly Snake Spirit Pool 115.

Relationship to Dou Qi Energy

The English term “Dou Qi” is used both for this foundational stage and for the energy that cultivators wield. Before the breakthrough to Dou Zhe, a practitioner has not yet formed the true Dou Qi vortex associated with formal cultivation; after the breakthrough, true Dou Qi circulates through the newly formed vortex 3 115 116.

A practitioner at this stage generally cannot rely on cultivation techniques or pills for ordinary advancement and must develop through personal cultivation. This limitation makes Xiao Yan's rapid rise through multiple levels particularly unusual 165.
