Background / History

Naruto was born during the Nine-Tails incident. To keep the family alive while containing the threat, Minato split the Nine-Tails: Kushina received one half and Naruto the other. The decision makes Naruto a jinchūriki from birth. 279 280

Despite growing up with both parents, Naruto and Kushina face hostility because of their jinchūriki status. Naruto supports Kushina's effort to improve the public's view of their family, while Kushina personally begins teaching him ninjutsu. 377 409

At the Ninja Academy, Naruto develops a bitter rivalry with Sasuke. He is loud, competitive, and initially prone to excuses after losing, but Kushina pushes him to turn his frustration into training instead.
