Background / History

Origins as the Sun Moon Sword Pavilion

The Great Sun Sword Pavilion began as the Sun Moon Sword Pavilion, a branch of the Great Yin Yang Sword Realm that fled to the Nine Spirit Domain during an ancient disaster. Its original parent civilization scattered multiple inheritance seeds so that surviving branches could eventually become new Immortal Cults if the main sect perished. 461 1164

The Sun Moon Sword Pavilion had existed for more than five hundred thousand years by the time Hei described its history, while the Great Sun Sword Pavilion itself had a history of slightly more than three hundred thousand years. 1164 Its complete form required both a Taiyin Sword Son and a Great Sun Sword Son, whose yin-yang coexistence created a balanced and peaceful Sword Dao. 699

A later Great Sun Sword Master initiated an internal slaughter that transformed the Sun Moon Sword Pavilion into the Great Sun Sword Pavilion. Although the sect lost roughly half its strength in the conflict, it subsequently expanded rapidly and embarked on a path of realm-wide dominance. 684

Ascendancy

At its height, the Pavilion possessed a Void Refinement Sword Master whose Great Sun Flying Sword suppressed the realms. The Void Refinement ancestors of the Eight Great Immortal Sects reportedly remained within their defensive formations rather than confront him alone. 205

The Pavilion was nearly capable of destroying the Eight Great Immortal Sects and ruling the realm before the Immortal Sects appeared. Its cultivation methods were regarded as roughly half a tier stronger than those of the Eight Great Immortal Sects. 621

Its Sword Intent achievements were especially renowned. In its prime, it had ninety-nine peak Sword Dao masters at the Nascent Soul stage or above, and challenging stronger opponents across cultivation ranks was considered commonplace. 159

Destruction and Sealing

The Pavilion's extreme martial philosophy led it into repeated wars with other sects. Its cultivators embraced principles such as “live by the sword, die by the sword,” “nothing exists besides this sword,” and “all needs are met by the sword.” 159

During the war against the Immortal Sect, the forbidden nuclear weapon Xian Xie killed a Void Refinement ancestor of the Great Sun Sword Pavilion. The Immortal Sect then destroyed the Pavilion's mountain gate with nuclear weapons, leaving its minor realm nearly ecologically extinct. 14

The foundational Great Sun Heavenly Pool was heavily damaged and sealed by the Nine Great Immortal Sects in a star region for approximately 3,400 years. 930 The Immortal Sect also captured part of the Great Sun Sword Scripture, whose study produced numerous civilian and military technologies over the following three millennia. 14

Survival and Revival

Despite its destruction, the Pavilion's inheritance was not fully eradicated. Its survival depended on the Great Sun Heavenly Pool, Hei the Inheritance Emissary, concealed Great Sun Flying Sword inheritances, and the continued existence of a Great Sun Sword Son. 1164 1337 2329

By the era of the Supreme Great Sun Dao Court, the Pavilion had entered a new period of prosperity. Great Sun Ming Guang Sword Emperor emerged as an orthodox successor of the Pavilion's lineage, while Yue considered him her greatest creation. 2328 2329

Philosophy and Sword Laws

The Great Sun Sword Pavilion follows an extreme Pure Yang Sword Dao. It rejects the Sun Moon Sword Pavilion's principle of yin-yang harmony, viewing the danger of Qi Deviation and self-destruction as whetstones for Sword Intent rather than defects in the path. 699 817

  • The Pavilion treats powerful cultivators of the same rank as opportunities to be challenged and slain rather than threats to be avoided. 1378
  • Its inheritance encourages sword cultivators to seek constant danger, life-and-death combat, and self-reflection. 699
  • Great Sun Sword Cultivators traditionally refuse to rely on the cultivation hundred arts, devoting their lives to sword practice and combat instead. 1043
  • The sect's reliance on an extreme Yang path produces a murderous, chaotic killing intent that drives many of its cultivators to seek strong opponents regardless of friendship or enmity. 817
  • The Pavilion considers a Sword Cultivator's failure to control this tendency a personal failure, not a flaw in the Great Sun Sword Dao itself. 699

Great Sun Sword Scripture

The Great Sun Sword Scripture is the Pavilion's fundamental inheritance, containing a complete path from Qi Refining to Dao Integration. 1165

Unlike a conventional technique, it contains no fixed sword moves, secret techniques, or cultivation methods. Its practitioners must derive their own sword arts, escape methods, secret techniques, and cultivation paths from its Sword Dao principles, then refine them through the experience of previous Sword Sons and Sword Masters. 882

This requirement makes the Scripture dependent on extraordinary comprehension rather than Dao Bodies or Divine Bodies. 882

Succession by Sword Combat

The Great Sun Heavenly Pool recognizes a Great Sun Sword Son through the Great Sun Flying Sword. A cultivator who forges such a sword and kills the current Sword Son in a fair battle can be acknowledged as the new Sword Son. 475

The Pavilion's traditions also hold that two Great Sun Sword Masters cannot coexist indefinitely: their Sacred Sword Combat ultimately ends with one dead or both perishing, regardless of personal friendship. 1196

Under the Pavilion's Original Sword Law, a Sword Master who rejects a predecessor's Sword Law may duel the Great Sun Heavenly Pool itself. The victor's Sword Law becomes correct and gains authority over future generations. 1544

Inheritance and Institutions

Great Sun Heavenly Pool

The Great Sun Heavenly Pool is the Pavilion's foundational treasure and the cradle of the Great Sun Sword Son. It was created to protect Sword Sons during the exceptionally dangerous Golden Core stage, where early generations suffered a death rate of 99.9%. 427 475

  • A strand of Great Sun Soul Flame is born within it every thousand years; it can preserve a Sword Master's spirit and magic power even if their Golden Core shatters. 427
  • It allows Great Sun Sword Cultivators to sense and temper themselves against the Sword Son's Sword Intent. 464
  • It is formed from the bodies, Sword Intents, Natal Flying Swords, and final obsessions of deceased Great Sun Sword Masters. 1056
  • It cannot be used against enemies of the same or higher major stage, a restriction imposed by past Sword Masters to prevent the Sword Son from relying on inherited protection. 932
  • Its spirit, Yue, eventually developed life consciousness and became a major guardian and caretaker of the Pavilion's legacy. 1753 2329

Hei, the Inheritance Emissary

Hei is the Great Sun Sword Pavilion's inheritance emissary and a rigid formation-spirit-like guardian bound by the Pavilion's sword laws. 1164

  • Hei consolidates the Pavilion's inheritance authority onto the recognized Great Sun Sword Son. 1164
  • Its protections include barriers related to karma, spatial laws, and sword laws that obstruct hostile deduction. 1164
  • Hei cannot harm a Great Sun Sword Son, including a former Sword Son, or participate in battles not involving the current Sword Son's transcendent enemies. 1164
  • It holds no trust in living beings or fluctuating emotions, considering cold logic and Sword Laws more reliable. 1164

Sword Mound

The Sword Mound is the burial ground of the Pavilion's successive Sword Cultivators. Only peerless Sword Cultivators who comprehended Sword Intent were qualified for burial there. 159

An Immortal Sect salvage team excavated fifty-nine Sword Intents from the ruins of the Sword Mound. 159

Scriptural Treasury

The restored inheritance contains an immense collection of cultivation knowledge. 1164

Military Legacy

Great Sun Long Sword Capital

The Great Sun Long Sword Capital is a pure sword-cultivator military organization shaped by the Pavilion's inheritance. Unlike mixed cultivator forces, its members reject the cultivation hundred arts and devote themselves solely to sword practice and killing enemies. 1043

  • More than five thousand of its cultivators had comprehended Sword Intent, approximately one for every twenty Sword Dao cultivators. 1043
  • Its formation forces can deploy 108,000 flying swords and condense them into a single Heavenly Sword strike. 1582
  • Its accumulated sword formations surpassed Peak Deity Transformation strength and could suppress the Northern Plains Minor Realm. 1582
  • The Capital's strength comes from nearly ten thousand years of inherited Dao Soldiers, flying swords, battlefield deaths, and successive generations of Great Sun Sword Cultivators. 1582

Great Sun Sword Son's Influence

The presence of a Great Sun Sword Son strengthens the Pavilion's cultivators beyond direct battlefield leadership. His existence suppresses cowardice, internal schemes, and infighting within Great Sun Sword Cultivators, while sword duels and Sword Intent exchanges accelerate their growth. 1001

Under a Great Sun Sword Master, even previously lesser Great Sun Sword Cultivators can rapidly reform their cultivation methods, sword arts, and flying-sword refinement techniques until they approach the strength of orthodox Immortal Cult disciples. 1749

  • The Great Sun Sword Pavilion's Sword Intent technology was regarded as the highest among known sects. 159
  • Its historical methods were so hazardous that the Great Sun Heavenly Pool was specifically created because nearly all early Sword Sons died during Golden Core formation. 427
