Over the next few days, Senga helped his roommates train during the day, then went alone to the wasteland behind the mountain in the afternoons to hone his Haki.
After unleashing twelve Divine Air Strikes in one breath, Senga sprawled flat on the ground, gasping heavily.
Divine Air Strike was currently Senga's strongest single-target Taijutsu attack. With less than a week left before the assessment, he could already deliver twelve strikes.
"That's enough. There's no way anyone in this class can take even one punch from this move. And since Divine Air Strike is launched with Haki, even a Logia can't withstand it."
Lying on the ground, Senga considered the results of his training so far and felt more than prepared for this assessment. He got up, dusted himself off, and prepared to return to the dorm early.
The moment he stood up, he saw Bridge rushing toward him, shouting as he ran.
"Boss Senga, a beautiful female officer is looking for you!"
Senga froze for a moment and asked, "A beautiful female officer?"
"Yeah! She said her name is Gion!"
Well, so it was Gion, whom he had not seen for nearly a year. Senga had thought Sister Gion would wait until his graduation before coming to see him.
But since she was here, Senga could not leave her waiting any longer.
He grabbed Bridge in one hand. Before Bridge could react, he found himself already airborne and immediately let out a miserable scream.
"Boss Senga! Make sure you hold on tight! I'm still not proficient with Geppo!!"
Landing smoothly, Senga set the limp Bridge aside and immediately spotted Gion standing at the entrance to the dormitory area.
Gion also saw Senga descending from the sky. A flash of delight passed through her eyes, but she put on a slightly angry expression and strode quickly toward him, her high heels clicking against the ground.
Stopping before Senga, Gion pinched his ear and leaned close to it, feigning anger as she said, "Little brother Senga, you really are a busy man. Do you know I've been waiting here for ages?"
Ignoring the ear in Gion's grasp, Senga replied unhurriedly, "Sister Gion, the moment I got word that you had come to see me, I rushed over like I was flying. You've wronged me."
Gion glanced at Bridge, who was lying on the ground with his eyes rolled back, and finally could no longer keep up the act. Her expression softened as she released Senga's ear, gazed steadily at his face, and said softly, "Long time no see, little brother Senga."
Senga smiled faintly and opened his arms. "Long time no see, Sister Gion."
However, seeing his gesture reminded Gion of their hug when they last parted. Her face reddened, and she shot him a glare before folding her arms and remaining where she was.
Senga stood there with his arms open, looking somewhat ridiculous. He quickly lowered them and rubbed his nose, trying to conceal the small awkwardness from before.
Gion tapped Senga's forehead with a finger and said with a smile, "Wasn't one hug last time enough? Don't forget what I told you. Once you graduate and reach your goal, I'll agree to one condition of yours."
Senga said that of course he had not forgotten, and that he had been striving toward it all this time.
Seeing his determined expression, Gion covered her mouth and chuckled. She then pinched his cheek again and got to the main matter. "I heard from Sister Tsuru that you're about to have your year-end assessment. The rewards for the top three are pretty good. So, are you confident?"
Senga shrugged indifferently. "It's mine."
Seeing how cocky he was, Gion increased the force of her cheek pinch. "Oh? You're quite confident. I'll be there to watch this time too, so don't make a fool of yourself."
Senga's expression did not change as he continued, "I've already decided what reward I want. I want a Devil Fruit."
"A Devil Fruit? What do you need that for? With all those strange abilities of yours, do you even need one? If you eat one, you won't be able to swim."
Gion felt that Senga was truly unsuited to eating a Devil Fruit, so she emphasized its drawbacks.
"Don't worry, Sister Gion. I know what I'm doing. And I don't want a Devil Fruit to eat it. My eyes still have some flaws. The power of a Devil Fruit can not only repair them, but let them evolve again."
Hearing this, Gion looked utterly incredulous. She already thought Senga's eyes were absurdly powerful. Not to mention their endless array of abilities, just the ability to fly had made countless people envious. Yet now, according to Senga, those eyes still had flaws and could even evolve further?
Studying Senga's Rinnegan, Gion noticed an extra tomoe in his right eye.
"Is the pattern in your right eye related to the evolution you mentioned? Was it caused by a Devil Fruit?"
Senga nodded. He had no intention of hiding it. Besides, Gion was someone close to him, so there was no harm in telling her.
Gion took a moment to process what she had learned. After all, using the power of a Devil Fruit to evolve one's eyes was truly unimaginable. And did that not mean Senga could possess the powers of more than one Devil Fruit?
Of course, the fact that Senga was willing to tell her something like this showed that he truly trusted her. That filled Gion's heart with joy.
Putting aside those unnecessary thoughts, Gion looked at Senga and said, "So you really need a Devil Fruit, right?"
"Yes, and its ability can't be too useless."
Senga had never believed that there were no useless fruits, only useless Ability Users. Trash fruit was trash fruit. Could an ordinary Zoan compare to a Mythical Zoan?
For example, the String-String Fruit looked powerful in Donquixote Doflamingo's hands, but that was because he himself was strong, alright? If an ordinary person ate the String-String Fruit, they'd probably only be able to work a sewing machine.
If Donquixote Doflamingo had eaten a slightly stronger fruit—even one like the Weapon-Weapon Fruit or Snow-Snow Fruit used by his subordinates—he wouldn't have gone down so quickly and ended up becoming the Prison Newspaper King.
Gion nodded slightly. She hadn't eaten a Devil Fruit, firstly because she specialized in swordsmanship, and secondly because she hadn't found one that suited her. But since Senga needed one, she would naturally help him.
"Alright, I understand. Sister Tsuru has a few, all of them recorded in the Devil Fruit encyclopedia. Once you graduate, come pick a few yourself."
"?"
Senga was genuinely stunned. Pick a few? Was that even something a person should say? So Gion was actually a little rich girl? Then what did that make him? A gigolo? He never thought he'd have a day when he became a gigolo!
But... it really was tempting!
