Near Yao City, Demonic Beasts were almost nowhere to be seen. More often, there were funeral processions from various factions, with flying ships and birds coming and going in an endless stream.
The white crane was enormous. Dozens of people sat or stood leisurely upon its back as it traveled. The energy and material foundations of the Great World and the Primordial Immortal Realm were stable; compared to Small Worlds, flying consumed tremendous amounts of energy. Only flying creatures were free of such constraints. One either took a boat or relied on flying demon beasts—long-distance flight could exhaust one to the point of bursting one's liver.
From afar, they could already see the towering Yao City.
Unlike ordinary cities, Yao City, where the Sang family resided, seemed to rest atop a lofty hill.
From a distance, it appeared built around the mountain. At its highest peak stood a resplendent, extravagantly luxurious palace, said to be where the Sang family's direct line lived and cultivated. The grand complex of buildings rose in tiers.
Around the outermost hill stood towering city walls and one defensive fortress after another.
It was clear that the Sang family had put considerable thought into their defenses against the Devil Race's invasion. Most spectacular of all was the formation blanketing the entire vast city. The Seven Stars of the Big Dipper flickered in and out of sight, while mysterious runes shifted position without any pattern.
The ship descended, preparing to enter Yao City through a passage in the formation.
