Background

Bai Yujun began as a white snake in the Hundred Thousand Mountains, where she survived through instinct, hunting, and repeated molts. After consuming a rare spirit grass, she grew to five meters long. When she encountered a drowning herb gatherer—the first human she had ever seen—memories of her human past stirred, prompting her to rescue him and later leave food for him despite her outward indifference 2.

Over the following years, she became stronger but remained solitary. Her reunion with the aged herb gatherer Wang Da, territorial pressure from larger snakes, and curiosity about the human world led her to begin cultivating and venture near a poor village 5. There she saved Yun’er from a wolf and remained near the village after the fearless child befriended her 6.

After being pursued by cultivators, Bai Yujun accepted Yu Rong’s offer to become a guardian demon beast of Chunyang Palace.
