"Mountain scenery really is the best~"
The tall horse ambled along. The official road was muddy after the rain, but fortunately, the beast knew enough to avoid the puddles.
The horse was simply too large; little Bai Yujun could not ride it normally.
So she sat sideways on the saddle, swinging her short little legs as she admired the scenery along the way. The sun after the rain was scorching, so she had picked a lotus leaf and held it overhead. Beneath the huge lotus leaf sat a tiny little girl, and perched atop it was a frog that had not yet had time to jump away.
As she traveled, she controlled a light breeze to blow around her.
It could not be helped. The smell was far too strong.
The official roads near the Capital City were bustling with people, especially caravans and packhorses. With so many animals, the roads were inevitably paved with cow dung and horse manure. People cared about saving face and would find a patch of grass by the roadside when nature called, but cattle, horses, and donkeys had no such concerns. Once the rain had passed and the sun came out, tsk tsk, that smell.
All kinds of travelers hurried along the road. Few were carefree and content; most were weary and numb.
Those with relaxed expressions all came from wealthy households. Servants attended to every inconvenience, and without worries, of course their state of mind was easy. When the mood struck, they drank a few cups of wine and squeezed out a few lines of poetry.
There was no need to mention the weary and numb ones. Clothed in tattered rags, yellow-faced and emaciated, they labored desperately to earn some thin gruel for themselves and their families.
Look at those farmers and commoners.
