Bai Yujun had kept up the air of an exalted master for several days until the trial ended, then left by way of the Immortal Bridge.
Flying alone through a spatial passage woven from countless lines, she had not invited the Daoist Immortal True Persons to take part in the Kunlun affair. They had already done enough. They ought to have been cultivating peacefully in the mountains as scholarly recluses, yet time and again they had been swept into great calamities and bloody slaughter. Cultivators had fallen in every palace, temple, pavilion, and tower. How could she possibly trouble them again?
The Warp Channel was filled with light on all sides. She had no idea how much time passed.
When the warp ended, she was already standing beside a frigid lake, a deep-blue expanse nestled between towering mountains before her.
A fallen, towering larch lay submerged in the water. Cold wind stirred waves that slapped the pebbles along the shore with a rushing clatter. The wild grass on the bank had withered yellow; snow and glaciers crowned the mountain peaks; below them, the larch forest by the lake was so still that only the wind could be heard.
Bai Yujun looked around.
Though she had been here before, this was the first time she had appeared in this particular place. She did not know whether the Queen Mother's Kunlun Secret Realm grotto-heaven still remained. It might have been hidden, or it might have been taken away. She could not be bothered to search for it. Her purpose here was the Kunlun Ruins, not the Jade Pool grotto-heaven. Some matters should be ignored when they ought to be ignored. First, she would deal with the restless threats.
She rose into the air and flew straight toward the snowy mountain heights.
