G-1 Marine base was Ortolan's first visit. It truly deserved its status as a "reserve headquarters"; it was indeed impressive, with an air no less imposing than Marineford's in every respect.
As for this mission, it really was as Bogard and the others had said—completely uninteresting. Fleet Admiral Kong's fleet left Marineford without a hitch, smoothly entered Mary Geoise, crossed the Red Line, and arrived in the New World.
Even in these brutal waters, they encountered no enemies and safely reached the G-1 Marine base, where they began their inspection.
This made Ortolan curse that Red Count bastard quite a bit in his heart. What a disappointment. Didn't he understand the principle of sacrificing the little self for the greater good? If he didn't come attack my boss, how was I supposed to get promoted and get rich?
"Why are you sighing?" Kuzan asked Ortolan curiously from beside the small table on deck.
Ortolan played the last card in his hand and shook his head. "Playing cards with trash like you guys, there's no joy in winning."
Bogard looked at the handful of cards in his hand, his cheek twitching slightly. "You cheated, didn't you? I only played one card, and you already got rid of all yours?"
That was right. The Fleet Admiral was on the island inspecting operations, while Garp was sleeping soundly aboard the ship. As a result, Ortolan had no excuse to follow him onto the island and protect the Fleet Admiral. With nothing else to do, the three of them gathered on deck to play cards while basking in the sun.
Was Marine life really this plain and unpretentious?
Ortolan even wanted to storm into Garp's cabin, grab him by the collar, and demand an explanation. Did this slacking behavior of his deserve that salary?
