The French Ministry of Magic was the most unique place in the world.

Strasbourg in the northeast was separated from Germany by only the Rhine River, which had once made it the Wizards' Purity Party's second major base in Europe.

By then, Grindelwald had long forgotten his original ideals and wanted only a war with Muggles that would decide their fate.

At the beginning of World War II, Germany swiftly occupied France.

In the wizards' world, however, it was occupied by the Wizards' Purity Party.

They took the Ministry of Magic with ease and effortlessly brought most wizards into their ranks.

The wizards unwilling to join kept fighting.

They did not believe in the magical government of that time, nor did they recognize a Wizarding World that had taken on Grindelwald's shape.

The Muggles' great revolution inspired them.

With the help of some British wizards, and after paying a price that could only be called devastating, they succeeded before Grindelwald and Dumbledore's duel of the century.

Liberation was one thing, but reconstruction was another challenge.

Though those former Wizards' Purity Party members were undoubtedly guilty of monstrous crimes, far too much blood had been spilled to reclaim the Wizarding World.

They were stripped of their freedom and permanently confined to their own estates.

Those were the conditions set by the newly formed Ministry of Magic. They also had to pay for rebuilding the Wizarding World.
