Compared with Britain and other countries, Italy's Wizarding World was far more complicated.

The three-hundred-year witch hunts of the Middle Ages had been launched by the Roman Curia. At the end of that bloody, dark era, the Curia and the wizards had finally reached an agreement and had coexisted peacefully ever since.

The Roman Grand Church was a magical institution established by the Curia and the wizards at the time, symbolizing the bond that maintained peace between Muggles and wizards.

The Papal Hall, which was under the Pope's sole authority, also had a secret organization: the Magical Affairs Department.

Not only did the organization contain specially trained Knights Templar, but it also had many wizards who had joined willingly. Divided into Departments One through Thirteen, each with its own duties, they were a violent institution dedicated to protecting the Muggle world.

Whenever anything threatened Muggles, Departments One through Thirteen would immediately divide the work and cooperate, silently and thoroughly eliminating the people and objects involved.

The Roman Curia and the Italian Ministry of Magic had long since become inseparable. Although they were respectively responsible for safeguarding the two worlds, they had also cooperated amicably on many occasions.

For example, they had resisted the attacks of the Wizards' Purity Party and rebelled against Grindelwald's rule.

After the powerful Dark Lord was defeated by Dumbledore, they joined forces to drive out the Wizards' Purity Party and successfully reclaim the Curia and the Ministry of Magic.

To better prevent similar incidents, the Italian Ministry of Magic had moved from Rome proper to beneath the entrance to Vatican—St. Peter's Square.
