There really was a pitch-black tree hollow beneath a large tree deep in the forest, about as tall as the goblins themselves.
Vincent extended his wand into the opening, trying to illuminate the hollow with its tip.
But he failed. The inside remained completely dark; there was clearly anti-scrying magic placed here.
"How fascinating..." He put away his wand. "There's not even a trace of magical aura. How was this done?"
The goblins' unique magic reminded him and Hermione of Harry's Golden Egg.
"How do we get in?" Lupin looked at Sirius Black. "It doesn't look like there's a doorbell here either."
Under the expectant gazes of the three of them, Sirius Black shrugged. "Don't look at me. I've never been here either."
He turned to Vincent, and the other two followed his gaze.
If he could crack the Golden Egg, this little arrangement should not be a problem.
Vincent unhappily put away the Alder Wand and took the Serpent Staff from the Flamel Ring. "There isn't even a guard. Are you sure this is the place?"
Sirius Black pointed at the pitch-black opening. "If this isn't the hideout of some mysterious underground organization, why would they go to such lengths to set up anti-scrying magic?"
He had a point, but shouldn't a place like this have at least some guards? What if Dark wizards or dark creatures happened to pass by?
Vincent temporarily set aside his concerns and aimed the two vicious snake heads at the tip of the staff toward the tree hollow.
The magical power that had seemed to sink into the sea finally managed to penetrate under the Serpent Staff's amplification, and a faint glimmer appeared within the dim, dark space.
The goblins' anti-scrying magic resembled the little sound-producing device in the Golden Egg. Both followed
