The Split Technique was a sage technique unique to Shikkotsu Forest, originating from Sage Katsuyu.
Like a slug's division, it could split several clones off from the main body, with the number depending on how much Sage Chakra one possessed.
The clones produced by the split not only had the abilities of Shadow Clones, but also things Shadow Clones lacked—for instance, real-time sharing of vision and thoughts, as well as actual physical bodies indistinguishable from the main body.
Though Shadow Clones were physical clones, they had extremely poor resistance to damage. Most ninjas' physical clones would collapse as soon as they were injured. There were very few exceptions; Gengetsu only knew of Hashirama Senju's Wood Clones, as well as Naruto's Shadow Clones in Sage Mode, Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, and Six Paths Mode.
Most importantly, Shadow Clones divided the main body's chakra evenly, whereas the Split Technique allowed for flexible distribution. Moreover, the clones created by the Split Technique would not feed negative conditions back to the main body.
In Gengetsu's view, only a body split off like this could truly be called a Clone Technique.
Shadow Clones were excellent for luring enemies, gathering intelligence, and increasing training experience. But for someone like him, who enjoyed developing and researching ninjutsu, the Split Technique was undoubtedly more suitable.
Glancing at Tsunade-sensei, who was laughing so hard she nearly lost her breath, Gengetsu withdrew the failed Split Body back into himself, then formed hand seals with both hands.
With the hand seals as a guide, this attempt at the Split Technique succeeded. A clone identical to the main body split out from his body. Shared vision, shared thoughts, and all in real time—the sensation was incredibly strange.
After splitting, Gengetsu immediately had the clone enter the Unity of Heaven and Man state. This
