Is a character like that just a witch hunter?
And used to capture a weak Wizard Apprentice like himself?
Lynn found it hard to believe, but reality wasn't a Combat Skill arena where you'd be matched with an opponent of equal strength. Begging for mercy or surrendering was meaningless; there was only life-or-death combat!
[Blade of Ice]
Lynn raised his left hand, pointing it at Blainey. His use of Water Condensation was becoming more skillful by the moment, and in an instant, another ice blade materialized in the air.
However, within the range of his spiritual power, the 'water element' in the vicinity had been depleted. The ice blade he created was simply not enough to pose a significant threat to the enemy.
Lynn knew this all too well, but there was nothing he could do to change it. A strong desire welled up within him.
He needed more water...
The moment this thought emerged, Lynn felt as if his brain had been struck hard, stinging as if pierced by countless silver needles. Then, the magic within his body rapidly consumed itself, converting into large amounts of hydrogen and oxygen, which were then 'combined' and transformed into water.
Simultaneously, a strange rune was deeply branded into his mind.
First-tier High-level Magic—[Multiple Ice Blades]
In the span of a single second, several sharp ice blades appeared before him, scattering like an arrow rain!
Lynn's sudden burst of power exceeded Blainey's expectations. Caught off guard, he shifted his longsword from offense to defense. Despite his extremely swift reaction, one [Blade of Ice] still bypassed the sword's guard and pierced his abdomen.
Blainey immediately felt a bone-chilling cold as crystalline ice crystals rapidly spread up from his abdomen.
Aware of the magic's insidious nature, Blainey dared not delay. He gripped the ice blade with his right hand and forcefully pulled it out!
Due to the [Blade of Ice]'s unique structure, the barbs were deeply embedded in the flesh. Forcing it out caused bright red blood to gush out.
The intense pain made Blainey tremble uncontrollably. The wound in his abdomen was a bloody mess, and more dangerously, the cold was spreading rapidly, causing the wound to lose sensation in moments.
However, Blainey's ruthlessness was beyond Lynn's expectations. Realizing that the abdominal wound would affect the upcoming fight, he grabbed the burning hot cabinet door handle and pressed it directly against his abdomen!
"Ahhhh!" The searing flames mingled with the mangled flesh as Blainey's veins bulged, and he let out a furious roar.
Wisps of light smoke rose from the point of contact. The mangled flesh was almost cooked, and no more blood flowed. The bone-chilling cold also vanished with the searing heat...
This horrific sight sent a chill down Lynn's spine. Whether it was Blainey's callous use of a companion's corpse as a shield or his use of cauterization to stop the bleeding, it made him realize that this was no easy opponent!
Seizing Blainey's moment of distraction, Lynn didn't hesitate to shove the door open and escape. Without his protective short sword and trapped in the narrow room, he had no chance of winning.
Blainey glanced at Andre's charred corpse, his right hand tightly gripping his longsword as he gave chase.
In the evening, in the slums outside Nordland Territory, two figures, one pursuing and one fleeing, moved through the narrow, dilapidated streets.
The sky was growing darker, and one [Blade of Ice] after another whistled through the air, striking the ground and walls haphazardly.
Each time he cast a spell, Lynn's head would throb with pain, but he couldn't afford to care now. If he stopped casting, the other party would pounce and stab him through the head with his sword!
In contrast, Blainey, who was in pursuit, seemed to be taking it easy. His sharp eyes tracked the flying ice blades, and he would occasionally leap to dodge, maintaining a not-too-close, not-too-far distance behind Lynn.
Blainey was being so cautious because the cunning of this Wizard Apprentice was unlike anything he had ever encountered. The misleading notes in the room, the ice blades and fireballs that suddenly erupted and injured him, and the strange sorcery used to kill Andre by feigning weakness – all left a deep impression on him.
Therefore, even though the opponent appeared to be utterly exhausted, Blainey dared not act rashly. Like the most patient hunter, he would chip away at Lynn's strength, drop by drop, until the prey collapsed and died!
As they continued this chase, the distance between them and the city grew. An unpleasant stench permeated the air, and Blainey finally realized that Lynn, in his panic, had fled into the long-abandoned Lower City.
The entire Nordland Territory sloped from south to north, with the main city built along the Yin River on the northern side.
More than ten years ago, Duke Nordland, upon returning from the Holy City, was displeased with the chaotic and smelly state of the main city. He ordered craftsmen to dig a small channel to divert all the artificial waste from the main city downstream into the Yin River.
This was a hardship for the poor people living in the Lower City who relied on the Yin River for water.
However, Duke Nordland cared nothing for the lives of these lowly commoners, and over time, the entire Lower City gradually fell into disrepair. Only a very small number of scavengers chose to linger in this place.
Blainey couldn't help but worry that other Wizard Apprentices might be hiding here. Just as he made up his mind to end this quickly, Lynn, who had been fleeing, suddenly stopped in a multi-level alleyway.
The concentration should be enough...
Lynn confirmed it one last time. The strange rune in his mind was instantly activated, and a full seven [Blades of Ice] materialized out of thin air, shimmering in the lingering rays of the setting sun...
Forcing a large amount of magic to convert into hydrogen and oxygen brought increasingly severe side effects. Lynn felt as if his brain was about to explode.
His magic had also been squeezed to its limit. This was his last spell!
The next moment, these ice blades automatically divided into two groups, shooting out in an irregular pattern, sealing off all of Blainey's escape routes.
Blainey's expression turned grim, his eyes fixed ahead.
With such a large number, even he couldn't block them all, but if he were willing to sustain injuries...
Fortunately, these ice blades seemed to have lost their aim; most of them whizzed past him, with only three heading directly towards him...
A cornered beast's struggle?
A hint of mockery flickered across Blainey's face. During the chase, he had noticed that Lynn wasn't creating magic from nothing; at least, it put a significant strain on his mind...
Clearly, the other party was nearing his limit.
The corners of Blainey's mouth curled up slightly. He swung his longsword horizontally, precisely slicing at each incoming [Blade of Ice]. However, he failed to notice a red sphere flying towards him amidst the ice blades.
Clang!
The sword edge met the sphere, scraping out incredibly brilliant sparks.
The strange, different impact made Blainey pause for a moment, and then he realized he had struck a piece of flint...
