I Create the Opportunity, You Seize It
"I don't know." The Thought Form shrugged rather bluntly, "But it should be enough to hold out until I kill you."
"Such arrogance." Smaug slowly approached the clock tower, a slight grin revealing a row of sharp dragon teeth, and sneered, "But how will you kill me? Do you still have Black Arrow?"
Upon hearing this, Bard's heart sank slightly.
Smaug narrowly dodged the only Black Arrow, and now he could only use ordinary iron arrows to attack the wound on its left chest, but the effect would certainly not be as good as the Black Arrow, at most it could only wound it.
Moreover, now that Smaug is on guard, they might not even be able to hit him with their iron arrows.
"Yes, and more than one." The Thought Form looked directly into Smaug's eyes, waved its chromatic Wand, and three Black Arrow landed on the wooden frame next to the Wind Crossbow.
"What? Where did these come from?" A string of exclamation marks floated above Bard's head. Wasn't he the only one in Long Lake Town who had preserved a Black Arrow?
"It's heartbreaking to tell you!" the Thought Form lamented. "What do you think I did all day? I searched the lake for ages before finding these three."
"Impossible. You would need to dive at least tens of meters to reach the bottom, let alone search for things down there."
"I am Warlock." The Thought Form smiled meaningfully.
Bard was speechless. The illogical things suddenly made perfect sense when applied to Warlock.
"Black Arrow, Wind Crossbow!" Smaug gritted his teeth and roared at Aaron, "Dragon Speaker, why must you oppose me?"
To activate the Dragon-Slaying Magic Crystal?
No, you definitely can't say that.
After a few seconds of silence, the Thought Form spoke, "I just simply feel that dragon slayers are more noble than Dragon Speaker."
Smaug was stunned for a moment, then angrily spewed out Dragon Fire.
The transparent barrier reappeared, protecting the clock tower, but soon became barely visible.
Seeing this Smaug increased his output, and the Dragon Fire became even more intense.
Bard immediately loaded the Black Arrow into the Wind Crossbow and fired it fiercely at the wound in Smaug's left chest.
This time it was prepared and used its wings to block the Black Arrow, but the price was that a piece of its green scale developed fine cracks.
"Damn it!" Bard pounded the wall in frustration.
"You can't stop me." Smaug spat out a breath of Dragon Fire and said coldly, "The Magic Array is about to break. You can think of your last words and then turn to ashes."
"That's not necessarily true." Aaron tapped the clock tower with his Wand, and the Magic Crystal began to provide magic power to the Magic Array, instantly stabilizing the barrier.
Smaug was dumbfounded and even began to doubt Dragon's life.
Damn it, killing people used to be effortless, but now it's so difficult.
"I will kill you all, I will definitely kill you all." Smaug said, one hand covering his chest, the other pounding hard against the protective shield.
"What do we do?" Bard said anxiously. "There are only two Black Arrow left, and we have no chance of hitting the wound."
"Opportunities are created. I create opportunities, and you have to seize them," the Thought Form said meaningfully, then nocked an arrow and aimed it at Smaug's eye once more.
The arrow shot out at lightning speed. Smaug instinctively tried to swat it away with his claws, but before he could even raise his arm, he saw Bard aiming his Wind Crossbow with a menacing look. He had no choice but to close his eyes in resignation.
The iron arrow bounced off Smaug's eyelids, but it was not happy at all.
"Despicable bastard." Smaug looked at Aaron speechlessly, feeling an immense sense of frustration for the first time in a battle against a human.
Upon hearing this, the Thought Form chuckled softly, then turned to Bard and gave him a wink, "Am I despicable?"
Bard:...
"Not despicable, but perfectly upright."
The Thought Form eye twitched slightly. Why did you hesitate for several seconds? Is it difficult for you to tell the truth?
"You heard me, great Smaug." The Thought Form shrugged. "If I had a body the same size as yours, the same hard scales, and the same sharp claws, I would definitely fight you one-on-one, but we don't have those, do we?"
You can bully the weak, abuse your power, and indiscriminately kill the innocent, so why can't I... shoot you in the eyes?
Smaug blinked, then roared and slammed his arms down, "I'll kill you."
"Shoot!" The Thought Form immediately shouted, and Bard adjusted the angle of the Wind Crossbow at that moment, firing the second-to-last Black Arrow.
The barrier was struck, and a faint crack appeared.
At the same time, the Black Arrow grazed a few scales and struck Smaug's wound.
Unfortunately, the arrow's power was somewhat diminished; it only pierced the flesh but failed to kill.
"Ah!"
Smaug soared into the air, and the townspeople who were fleeing for their lives heard the dragon's painful cries. When they turned around, they saw a black arrow stuck in its chest.
"He hit it! My dad hit it!" Bain shouted excitedly.
"He hit it! He hit the dragon!" Kili shouted. "You saw it!"
"That was Black Arrow," Tauriel murmured. "No wonder it pierced through Dragon Hide."
"Did we win?" Bofur breathed a sigh of relief. "Can we get out now?"
"No." Tauriel immediately said, "Just in case, we cannot leave the area of this Magic Array until we are certain that the dragon is dead."
Smaug pulled the Black Arrow from his chest mid-air, and a large amount of red blood splattered into the lake.
It spewed flames at Long Lake Town to vent its raging fury.
"This still can't kill it?" Bard asked incredulously, then looked down at the last Black Arrow. "There's only one chance left. It's going to get even harder from here on out."
"No matter how difficult it is, we have to go for it!"
Also, I have bad news for you: the Magic Array is about to collapse.
"That's really bad news." Bard smiled bitterly and loaded the Black Arrow into the Wind Crossbow.
After Smaug turned Long Lake into a sea of fire, he landed in front of the clock tower, but he was much calmer than before.
"Unfortunately, no one can kill me, no one."
"We still have one more Black Arrow," the Thought Form said calmly. "You have no right to be arrogant until you fire it."
Smaug's voice stopped abruptly, and he immediately flapped his wings to distance himself from the two.
Its wings whipped up hurricanes, interfering with the direction of the Black Arrow, and as it flew at high speed, it spewed Dragon Fire to attack the Magic Array on the clock tower.
"Damn it, they've gotten smarter," the Thought Form cursed. "Is it really necessary to be so cautious? If there's a problem, come down and fight me one-on-one!"
Bard's lips twitched, and he was speechless.
Smaug almost died; anyone with a brain knows they can't take any more risks.
Click! Click!
"Gaius, the shield is about to shatter."
"I know, at worst I can use my own Magical Energy to power the Magic Array."
"Even so, we can only buy ourselves a chance to catch our breath. If Smaug continues like this, he can wear us down completely."
Thought Form frowned, understanding their current predicament.
After taking several deep breaths, the Thought Form turned to Bard and said, "You must seize the opportunity I'm giving you."
Bard nodded. "What are you going to do?"
"Of course I'll go myself," the Thought Form said with a smile, then pointed its Wand at the lake.
"Black Arrow Accio."
A black arrow flew out of the lake and landed in his hand.
"Black Arrow?"
"Don't overthink it. Spells have limitations. You need a lot of luck to find one, and this one is for myself." The Thought Form cut off Bard's wishful thinking and then raised the white Wand.
"Expecto Patronum."
A white vortex emerged from the tip of the Wand, its powerful magic spreading outwards in concentric circles, even suppressing the raging flames burning around it.
The white magical ripples forced Smaug back, but he couldn't break through its defenses.
"Great magic, do you think you can stop me like this? I am Smaug!" Smaug roared.
"Of course not." The Thought Form shook its head and increased its magic output.
The dragon-shaped Patronus took shape in the sky, radiating a holy light.
Aaron's first Patronus was the raven, and his second Patronus was Abei — the Holy Dragon.
However, he is currently only Archmage, and the Holy Dragon Patronus he summons is only a dozen meters in size, far from being comparable to Smaug.
"A second dragon," Smaug said in astonishment. "No, you are not a real dragon, you only have the form of a dragon."
Aaron waved his Wand, and the Holy Dragon Patronus roared as it flew toward Smaug.
"Court death."
Smaug opened his mouth wide and spewed out crimson flames.
The Holy Dragon Patronus was not to be outdone; a white Magic Array flashed before him, and holy White Dragon flames spewed from its mouth.
The two flames collided and intertwined, neither able to gain the upper hand.
The Patronus's attack consumes the spellcaster's magic power. The Thought Form felt its energy rapidly draining away, consuming several times the magic power required to summon the raven.
Bard stared in disbelief, his gaze shifting between Aaron and the White Dragon. "Heh! I must be dreaming. To think I could fight the Evil Dragon Smaug to this extent."
The townspeople who were busy running away also stopped, their eyes filled with piety, and some even knelt down to worship.
"Gaius ...is he really that powerful?" Kili stared wide-eyed in disbelief. "We're definitely going to win now."
"No." Tauriel looked at the Thought Form and frowned slightly. "This magic is very strong and consumes a lot of energy. He's only a teenager and can't last long."
Indeed, the right hand of the Thought Form was trembling.
Even a mid-level Archmage wouldn't dare to expend so much magic power, let alone a clone that now only has half its power.
"Bard, please, please, please don't go crazy!" The Thought Form gave a forced laugh and controlled the Patronus to crash hard into Smaug.
Bang~ Bang~ Bang~
Two dragons, one large and one small, fought in the night sky in the most primal way.
Smaug had a size advantage several times that of the Holy Dragon, giving him an absolute upper hand in close combat. He used his wings and claws to attack relentlessly, making it difficult for the Holy Dragon to maintain its form.
The Thought Form was teetering on the brink of collapse. In less than two minutes, its Magic Power was reduced to less than a quarter. If it continued, it would disappear completely.
Hey, where are you? Where's the timely support you promised?!
