The moment Loki saw Thrór regain the power of Thor, he knew killing him was no longer an option. Thor's combat strength was not something ordinary soldiers could handle.
But he was not overly worried. As long as the Bifrost remained under his control, they could only be trapped on Midgard, unable to do anything.
What he needed to do now was secure the throne and make Odin proud when he awoke. Even if Thrór returned to Asgard someday, it would be difficult for him to shake Loki's hold on the throne.
To accomplish that, he needed a stepping stone—a stepping stone with enough weight.

Loki inserted the Eternal Spear into the Bifrost's control mechanism. Along with the gatekeeper Heimdall's weapon, Bifrost's Key, these were the only two keys capable of activating the Bifrost.
White currents danced wildly as a colorful pillar of energy shot from the end of the Bifrost into the void.
Before long, heavy footsteps sounded across the Bifrost. Laufey, King of the Frost Giants, led over a dozen Frost Giants onto Asgardian soil.
Loki pulled out the Eternal Spear and said expressionlessly, "Welcome to Asgard."
Laufey gave a cold smile, murder flashing in his crimson eyes.
Loki had reached an agreement with Jotunheim beforehand. Laufey would invade Asgard and kill the sleeping Odin, allowing Loki to ascend the throne in turn. As for the reward, it would be the Frost Giants' treasure, the Casket of Ancient Winters.
Laufey knew perfectly well that Loki was using him, and he also knew that his decision would provoke a war between two realms, perhaps even the Nine Realms.
But he did not care. So long as he recovered the Casket of Ancient Winters, he could use its frost energy to return to his peak and enter
