Background / History
The tower predates the Huangtian Sect. Although sect tradition claimed that its founder built it, the Tower Spirit rejected this, and later revelations established that the tower had belonged to the cross-realm Great Power known as the Desolate Heaven Emperor Lord. The Huangtian Sect’s ancestor instead made an agreement with the Tower Spirit and founded the sect beside the tower. The sect could send qualified disciples to attempt its trials, but never controlled it. 22 144 145
The Desolate Heaven Emperor Lord created tens of thousands of similar legacy artifacts and scattered them across worlds to identify a successor. The towers were originally parts of a powerful Ancestor Artifact; the Emperor Lord intended for qualified inheritors to compete and merge multiple towers back into a complete artifact. 150 215
Jiang Hao first challenged the tower as a Mingjin martial artist using an Inner Gate Recommendation Slot. He cleared its nine-floor first stage, defeated a phantom duplicate of himself on the ninth floor, received Blood of Origin, and selected the Great Sun Battle Sacred Body from the tower’s Sacred Body murals. 21 24 25
After reaching Pill Force, Jiang Hao returned for the second stage. Its Will, Comprehension, and combat trials were designed to forge an invincible heart and qualify a challenger for the Path of Dao Fusion. Jiang Hao ultimately passed this stage and received that method. 77 78 88
Upon Entering the Dao, Jiang Hao attempted the final stage. He endured the Great Dao Trial, passed the Soul Trial when his True Spirit automatically manifested, and subsequently received the Desolate Heaven Emperor Lord’s inheritance. He refined the tower over three months, becoming its new master. 147 148 149 150
Appearance
The Desolate Heaven Tower is a towering pagoda that pierces the clouds, usually shrouded in mist. Its interior is concealed from outside observers; when a challenger ascends a floor, that floor lights up to show their progress. 22 24
- Its interior contains vast Dao Domains that can simulate forests, halls, void spaces, and trial environments. 22 25 147
- In combat, it can expand to obscure the sun and moon, emit white divine light, and draw targets inside through powerful suction. 152 166
- When Jiang Hao deployed it in Chaos as a dojo, it grew to a size comparable to the Chaos Divine Palace. 215
Tower Spirit
The Tower Spirit is the tower’s sentient administrator, appearing as a barefoot, chubby big-headed doll floating in midair. Though a tool spirit, it possesses emotions, surprise, judgment, and discretion within its authority. 22 24
It enforces the former master’s rules, explains trials and rewards to qualified challengers, and manages the tower’s Blood of Origin. It was able to approve Jiang Hao’s request to borrow an additional drop of Blood of Origin in exchange for an Entering the Dao great demon corpse. 22 25
After Jiang Hao refined the tower, the Tower Spirit formally recognized him as “Master.” It remains Jiang Hao’s primary source of information on the tower’s functions, defenses, and limitations. 150 161
Trial System
First Stage — Nine Floors
The first stage is available to qualified Huangtian Sect challengers, including Mingjin martial artists using an Inner Gate Recommendation Slot. Each cleared floor grants one drop of Blood of Origin; failure does not normally endanger the challenger’s life. 21 22
| Floor | Assessment | Reward / Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| First | Defeat a Spirit Devouring Worm, or endure for one incense stick without defeat. | One drop of Blood of Origin 22 |
| Second | Defeat an Ox Demon Heterogeneous Species with combat power around 750. | One drop of Blood of Origin 23 |
| Third–Eighth | Further Heterogeneous Species challenges, including a Sky Elephant on the third floor. | One Blood of Origin per cleared floor 23 24 |
| Ninth | Defeat a phantom body possessing the challenger’s own strength and martial arts realm. | Ninth Blood of Origin; access to the greater reward area 24 25 |
The ninth-floor phantom is intended to be overcome through a challenger’s own ingenuity. Jiang Hao instead learned a Movement Technique from the sixth-floor guardian’s technique on the spot, surpassing his duplicate and crushing it directly. 25
Second Stage — Invincible Heart
The second stage requires Pill Force cultivation. It consists of a Will Trial, a Comprehension Trial, and a combat trial against one hundred peak Gang Force martial artists. 56 77
Its reward is the Path of Dao Fusion, a method created by the Desolate Heaven Emperor Lord that requires an invincible heart and allows a cultivator to fuse multiple Daos. 78 88
Third Stage — Successor Assessment
The final stage is available after a challenger Enters the Dao. Passing it grants the Desolate Heaven Emperor Lord’s inheritance and the right to refine the tower. 145 147
- Great Dao Trial — withstand the collision of forty-nine Great Daos. 147
- Soul Trial — tests whether the challenger’s soul is strong enough for advancement toward the Great Power realm. 147
- The tower considers this stage extremely dangerous; success establishes the challenger as its master. 147 150
Abilities & Functions
Dao Domain Manipulation
The tower’s interior is neither an illusion nor an ordinary world; it is a Dao Domain shaped by the power of Dao. It can create environments, manifest opponents, isolate challengers, and administer trials. 22 24
- Conceals interior events from observers outside the tower. 22 24
- Condenses phantom bodies matching a challenger’s strength and martial arts realm. 24
- Can create life-like illusion trials that strip or suppress external advantages, as seen when Jiang Hao relived a life without the Martial Arts Divine Hall. 77
Blood of Origin
The tower awards Blood of Origin for clearing its initial floors. The substance unlocks bodily potential, especially for holders of powerful bloodlines or special constitutions. 22
- Jiang Hao received one drop for each of the nine initial floors. 22 25
- The Tower Spirit can impose conditions on additional Blood of Origin, such as exchanging great demon corpses. 25 56
- The tower’s power helped suppress Jiang Hao’s awakening Great Sun Golden Crow Divine Blood when it threatened to burn him to ashes. 26
Supreme Defense
The tower is primarily a defensive Chaos Spirit Treasure. It can withstand all power below the Great Power realm and is exceptionally difficult for Dao Lords to damage or destroy. 150 161 205
- Broke through Netherworld Dao Lord’s Netherworld Domain and remained unharmed by his attacks. 152
- Shielded Jiang Hao completely from White Jade Ancestor’s Great Dao pressure and attacks. 159
- Can withstand an ultimate Dao Lord’s attacks when used defensively, though such opponents may be able to escape if trapped inside. 161
- A Great Power’s strike could crack the tower, demonstrating that Great Power-level attacks exceed its reliable defensive limit. 205
Suppression and Confinement
The tower can draw enemies inside and suppress them with its internal power. It has restrained opponents ranging from Daoist True Persons to ordinary Dao Lords. 152 153 166
- Suppressed Netherworld Dao Lord until he accepted a truce with Huangtian Sect. 153
- Captured White Jade Ancestor after his freezing method failed to restrain the tower. 159
- Easily imprisoned Blood Cloud Demon King, whose strength was comparable to an Entering the Dao cultivator. 166
- Cannot reliably trap perfected, peak, or limit Dao Lords, and it cannot kill an ordinary Dao Lord by suppression alone. 150 153 159
- Maintaining a Dao Lord’s suppression requires Jiang Hao to continuously expend consciousness and mental energy. 153
Travel and Spatial Shelter
The tower can carry multiple cultivators through Chaos and serve as a protected cultivation space. Jiang Hao used it to transport five Great Powers across Chaos, though the journey still took a year. 215 221
- Can expand into a large-scale Dao field or dojo. 215
- Houses prisoners and guests, including Black Venerate. 233 256
- Is integrated with Jiang Hao’s second Primordial Spirit; after that spirit merged with his main Primordial Spirit, damage to the tower could also damage Jiang Hao’s Primordial Spirit. 221
Tower Merging
Multiple Desolate Heaven Towers can sense one another when sufficiently close and can theoretically merge into a restored Ancestor Artifact. 215
- The process requires many towers rather than only two. 215
- Other inheritors may possess refined towers, creating competition among Great Powers seeking to merge them. 215
Relationships
- Desolate Heaven Emperor Lord — creator and former master; forged the tower as one of many successor-selecting legacy artifacts before his self-annihilation. 149 150
- Tower Spirit — resident tool spirit and administrator; follows the tower’s rules and serves Jiang Hao after his refinement. 22 150
- Jiang Hao — current master and final inheritor of the Desolate Heaven Emperor Lord’s legacy. 150
- Huangtian Sect — longstanding neighbor and beneficiary of a pact allowing qualified disciples to undertake trials; the sect never owned or controlled the tower. 22 145
- Huangtian Sect’s founder — made the original agreement with the Tower Spirit and established the sect near the tower. 22 144
Notable Events
- Jiang Hao’s completion of the nine-floor first stage made him an Inner Disciple and awakened his Great Sun Golden Crow Divine Blood after he borrowed a tenth drop of Blood of Origin. 25 26
- By suppressing Netherworld Dao Lord with the tower, Jiang Hao secured Huangtian Sect’s survival and gained the title Desolate Heaven Dao Lord. 152 153
- The tower’s existence made Jiang Hao effectively untouchable to opponents below the Great Power realm, forcing even Star Palace to treat him as an opponent who could be repelled but not captured or killed. 191
- Jiang Hao later deployed the tower as a public cultivation and discussion site for the Great Powers of the Purple Realm. 215
