Time flew by, and it was already mid-August. Tingen's atmosphere remained tense, as the official Extraordinary individuals in the city had discovered an increase in strange Extraordinarys.
Perhaps having heard of the changes here, members of the Aurora Society from East Taker County, East Tacker Sea County, and even South Taker County had flocked to the city. Although no mid-sequence Extraordinarys of the Emissary level appeared, their fanaticism was quite troublesome.
This wasn't 0-08's arrangement, but the inevitable impact of the news about the birth of an Evil God Progeny. Members of the Aurora Society were fanatical believers. Upon hearing that a Divine Child was about to descend and that heretical organizations were interfering, they would naturally come to protect her. Mid-sequence Extraordinarys of the Emissary level might still retain their sanity, but those Secret Speakers and Attendants of Mysteries were all mentally twisted Madmen.
Even the officials who sensed something was amiss began to transfer Extraordinarys from other regions. However, under the suicidal attacks of the Aurora Society members, the situation still felt like a drop in the bucket.
In fact, according to the official Extraordinarys' configuration, there weren't significant casualties. But the Madmen of the Aurora Society were always shrouded in the Evil God's pollution. A mid-sequence Sequence Seven powerhouse would be contaminated just by looking at a Sequence Nine's dream, let alone the evil aura actively released during combat.
This resulted in even the official Extraordinarys who successfully subdued the Aurora Society members having to enter a period of recuperation to avoid Loss of Control. Not to mention, in the shadows, a clumsy screenwriter wielding a Sequence Zero Sealed Artifact was constantly writing the script.
The lower-level members of the Aurora Society were dying in increasing numbers, but this was something the Aurora Society completely disregarded. With a True God watching over them, they were hardly lacking in Extraordinary characteristics of Sequence Nine. What about manpower? It was a joke; in this era, people were the least lacking. Just find any city, take a stroll through the slums, and as long as you offer a meal, there would be plenty of people willing to risk their lives. As for loyalty? It didn't matter if they were loyal before drinking the Potion; after drinking it, they would definitely be loyal!
(A Sequence One's aura at level 422 could directly contaminate ordinary people into werewolves or living corpses. Even without Extraordinary characteristics, it's not impossible to produce low-level Potions using the aura of True Creators, at most the risk of Loss of Control would be slightly higher.)
Fortunately, among these strange Extraordinarys, there were not only the lunatics of the Aurora Society, but also, for example, that female Extraordinary who first appeared in early August.
Her activities were quite frequent. Every two to three days, she would suddenly appear in the sight of an official Extraordinary, leave some inexplicable words, and then quietly disappear. Her behavior was so baffling, it was as if she were playing a joke on the official Extraordinarys. Yet, the events she revealed were always very dangerous, from Mr. A's hiding place to the worship of an Evil God in the slums. Even if they were fake, the official Extraordinarys dared not gamble. What was even more terrifying was that these things were often true.
Although in a sense, this lady had made outstanding contributions to the public safety of Tingen City, from a purely conclusive standpoint, the official Extraordinarys of Tingen had undoubtedly become busier.
And this lady, whom the official Extraordinarys loved and hated, was currently sitting in front of a vanity mirror, slowly adjusting her makeup.
Although the official Extraordinarys had basically recognized her, she still had to slightly alter her appearance each time she went out. Caution and meticulousness were the qualities an Assassin should possess, and a qualified Invoker also had to learn to keep themselves out of it.
However, just as Triss was deepening her eyeliner to change the shape of her eyes, the mirror in front of her suddenly lit up slightly, and then the image of a cat appeared within it.
It was only at this point that Triss's Extraordinary ability was finally triggered. But instead of making her relax, it only made her even more shocked—
"How is this possible! This is my ability! How did you do it?"
Yes, from the triggering of her Extraordinary ability, it could be seen that this damned cat had finally used the hair she gave it to cast a spell. But why, when it was a communication cast using the Witch's ability as a medium, was it instead dominated by the other party?
"That's why I've said it many times, don't be superstitious about Extraordinary powers." The Black Cat in the mirror narrowed its amber eyes, a dangerous glint flashing within them, making Triss's scalp tingle.
Although she had always suspected that a powerful individual of a considerable Sequence was behind this Black Cat, it was only today that Triss truly felt the other party's strength and strangeness.
"What is it this time? Who to kill? Who to save?" Triss wasn't foolish enough to ask about the other party's true Sequence and directly inquired about the specific task.
The Black Cat was clearly satisfied with her perceptiveness, revealing a somewhat terrifying smile, and pointed at the mirror with its paw:
"Find a girl named Elizabeth. She is a student at Yvontes Public School. Her family has a manor in Ramde Town. I believe this information is enough for you to pinpoint your target."
"It is indeed enough." Triss nodded. With such information, even if she commissioned an ordinary private detective, she could get results within a few days. However, she knew this mission wouldn't be that simple. To avoid the cat in front of her flaunting its detestable 'linguistic art,' she directly asked:
"And after finding her?"
"After finding her, confirm if she is being haunted by vengeful spirits or ghosts. If so, inform Mr. Klein Moretti, who lives at Daffodil Street No. 2. He is an official Extraordinary. Oh, you can also tell him that the vengeful spirit is related to an amnesiac with a mole on their earlobe." The Black Cat's smile became more sinister. Triss nodded, acknowledging it, and then asked:
"And if not?"
"If not, you go directly to that Diviner and tell him that there are clues related to his changed fate in the Ancient Castle in Ramde Town, and also about the amnesiac with the mole on their ear." The Black Cat licked its front paw with its tongue and slowly finished stating its request, then lightly tapped the mirror:
"That's all for this time. The difficulty is not high, and it only involves one Sequence Nine. I'll give you a 500-pound question allowance. You can ask if you have any questions."
"First, I want to know why the Acting Method can digest Potions." Triss immediately asked the question she had long wanted to ask. Her life these days had been relying on her invisibility ability and Sequence Seven status to track those Attendants of Mysteries from the Aurora Society and then leak their evil plans to the officials. Although it wasn't as rewarding as the feedback she received when the Hidden Sage's pollution of Sequence Nine was exposed, it was far more efficient than killing civilians.
"Oh, this question. Although I do know, this is a key question pointing to the core of the Acting Method. Your current allowance seems to be only around 1300 pounds, which is not enough!"
Regarding the impact on the Sequence after reaching Sequence Zero, this needs to be discussed separately.
First, mental influence is inevitable. One doesn't even need to reach the peak; accommodating a uniqueness will affect the Sequence. For example, Amon's modification of inherited knowledge is the utilization of this influence. Chick reaching the peak caused males to be more suited to the Witch pathway. The Hidden Sage would instill knowledge into the Hermit Sequence, and so on.
Second, whether it affects the characteristics of the Sequence itself. This should not affect it. Whether it's the Spider Witch or the Snake Witch (the Witch Sequence has the characteristics of spiders and snakes) or the Cat Witch, becoming female is inevitable because this Sequence itself corresponds to the concept of "femininity." Lily becoming a god would at most give the Witch cat ears, just as the current Witch can use spider silk.
Third, whether it changes the mythological creature form. The original work does not explicitly state this, but one thing is certain: even if it doesn't change, there will be a deviation. The most direct example here is the Death pathway. The mythological creature form of the Death pathway was originally the Phoenix, but it has now become the Feathered Serpent.
As for why it changes, there are two speculations:
One, the faith in the God of Death in Southern Continent led to the change in the mythological creature form.
Two, the influence brought about by Ming Huang's promotion to the second-generation God of Death.
However, considering that Susie has already acquired dragon scales and other dragon characteristics during her promotion, the final change should be a combination of dragon and dog...
Wait! If we follow this logic, then the Feathered Serpent is a combination of snake and bird? Does this mean Salinger was originally a snake? Come on, you're Salinger, not Salazar!
