The afternoon after attending Viscount Grellint's literary salon, Audrey arrived at Madam Norma's home for a pre-arranged afternoon tea.
Afternoon tea for noble ladies and young ladies was a very popular social activity in this era, but this time, it seemed a bit different—
"These are the mysticism experts I told you about." Madam Norma enthusiastically introduced the distinguished guests. "This is Mr. Hilbert Alucard. He's a psychologist and a jewelry designer, exceptionally talented. And this is Miss Islander Oseilka (not a typo, the 's' makes this lady's name sound like ***), she's a doctor in the mental field, what we commonly call a psychologist."
"A psychologist? Isn't that Sequence Seven of the Spectator pathway?" Audrey politely observed Mr. Hilbert, who seemed to have South American ancestry, and Ms. Oseilka, with her doll-like face, feeling a slight nervousness.
However, due to the education of a noble lady, she quickly composed herself, exchanged a few pleasantries with them, and then sat down.
Then, Audrey noticed something strange—
She seemed to clearly sense that these two were observing her.
She hadn't used her Spectator abilities. Or rather, generally speaking, even if she had, with the power of a mere Spectator, observing an expert of at least Sequence Seven of the same pathway would absolutely be discovered.
But now, it didn't feel like that at all. It felt more like…
Well, it was as if they were being misled by her?
That emotional "self-righteousness," as if it were loudly proclaiming, "Ah, what a naive girl. I can see right through her. She must be thinking this."
"What's going on? Is my talent so strong that I can already observe Sequence Seven experts? Or is this actually their test, trying to make me careless this way?"
Audrey pondered this in her heart but dared not show it, not even daring to reveal the truth that she was already a Spectator.
Before coming, she had already decided what role she should play today. With her status, even if they really wanted to do something, they absolutely wouldn't dare to make a direct move. And behind her was Mr. Fool; as long as she left here, she could have Mr. Fool clear any influence.
Therefore, regardless of whether they saw through her or not, she had to play her part.
Miss Justice made up her mind and began to interact with these mysticism experts as a mysticism enthusiast. Thus, a "wonderful" afternoon tea time passed…
Seeing Alucard and Tiel stand up to take their leave simultaneously, Audrey finally relaxed. Today's afternoon tea was so bizarre that she could no longer bother thinking about the Psychology Alchemist Association. All she wanted was to go home quickly and pray to Mr. Fool to see if she had been affected by any supernatural powers.
But just as she also proposed to leave and was escorted to the door by Madam Norma, the latter suddenly asked with a smile:
"Audrey, I see you're very interested in psychology. Why don't you consider trying to be a psychologist before you get married? Count Hall and his wife are both believers of the Goddess, they should support you doing something like this."
"A test? Or a hint?" Audrey felt a little nervous but maintained her composure, responding with a polite, shallow smile:
"Then I still need to read more books."
Hearing Audrey's reply, Madam Norma showed a satisfied expression and smiled, "Islander and Alucard are both good teachers."
"Mhm, perhaps I can consider asking Miss Islander to be my psychology home tutor." Audrey nodded obediently, then took her carriage back to the Hall family's luxurious villa.
Passing through the front courtyard, Audrey immediately lifted the hem of her skirt and quickly returned to her room with small, quick steps that wouldn't trip her hem. After changing out of her elaborate tea party attire into her favorite comfortable home dress, she finally let out a sigh of relief and said to Susie, who had quietly appeared in the corner of the room:
"Help me guard the door. If Annie and the others come, notify me immediately... No, stop her, and then notify me with a shout."
Susie was already very skilled at this kind of work and immediately walked towards the door obediently. She didn't forget to turn around and close the door properly.
Audrey sat in front of her vanity, clasped her hands, and rested them on her forehead, silently reciting in Ancient Hermes:
"O Fool who does not belong to this era;"
"You are the mysterious Sovereign above the Gray Fog;"
"You are the King of Yellow and Black who wields good fortune."
"I pray for your gaze;"
"I pray for your attention."
"This afternoon, I participated in..."
"Why is Mr. Devil's prayer getting earlier and earlier?" Klein, who was still on duty at the Black Thorne Security Company, frowned as he heard the noisy murmurs in his ears. He checked the time; let alone dinner, there was still a considerable amount of time before he could get off work.
However, he only grumbled inwardly and immediately walked into the washroom, took four steps backward, and arrived above the Gray Fog. To his surprise, he found that it was Miss Justice who was praying today?
"What does Miss Justice want with me?"
Klein didn't dare to delay. He immediately extended his spirituality and touched the star symbolizing justice.
With a boom, he saw distorted and blurry images. He saw Miss Justice, dressed in a comfortable home dress, sitting at her vanity, her hands clasped and resting on her forehead.
However, before he could listen carefully to Miss Justice's words, he was already drawn to something else—
It was a strange image floating above Miss Justice's head, sometimes gathering and dispersing, sometimes transforming into white clouds, sometimes into galloping horses.
"Isn't this an extraordinary item Mr. Devil uses to shield himself from the True Creator? How did it end up on Miss Justice?" Klein frowned, trying hard to distinguish the faint, sweet female voice. He listened as Miss Justice recounted her interactions with suspected Sequence experts from the Psychology Alchemist Association today.
"Did Mr. Devil protect Miss Justice with his mysterious item? But how did he know Miss Justice's true identity? Or do they know each other in reality?"
Although Klein felt that Mr. Devil was likely acting out of good intentions, he didn't jump to conclusions. Instead, he conjured paper and a pen and wrote a divination statement on the parchment—
"The effect of the anomaly above Miss Justice's head."
He silently repeated this sentence, repeatedly sketching the fleeting clouds and white horses, seven times. Then, Klein held the paper with the divination statement and leaned back in his chair.
He conjured a light mound in his mind, his eyes instantly turning pitch black, and he quickly entered a meditative state.
The surroundings instantly became ethereal, and it seemed as if invisible things and illusory waves were extending from above, boundless.
Klein recalled the floating cloud and white horse once more, then let his spirituality guide him into a dream in this state…
ps1: Some people feel the protagonist's abilities are a bit vague. I've posted a work-related notice organizing the information on the Paradox Path that has been publicly disclosed so far. It will be gradually completed later.
ps2: Isn't anyone guessing the name of Sequence Seven? It's already very obvious
