Petrification Lizard
Klayr straddled a branch of the tree and finally came to her senses a little more.
He stared wide-eyed at the enormous creature slowly crawling through the grass dozens of meters away, then looked at Roy sliding down the tree trunk, and instantly snapped back to reality.
Cold sweat broke out all over my body immediately.
He didn't even dare to shout, and followed Roy down the tree.
Roy thought Klayr had slid down from the tree to help.
He crouched down and crept towards the patch of grass where the monitor lizard was hiding.
Klayr grabbed Roy from behind and pulled him back forcefully...
A moment later, the two retreated back to the tree.
It was nearly four meters long and looked like an alligator from a distance. Its whole body was round and plump, like a fat pig with oil oozing from its rear end. Its skin was the same color as the grass, and when its mouth was closed, a row of sharp teeth was exposed.
This was a Petrification Lizard that had just reached adulthood, and Klayr didn't even dare to speak loudly.
Hidden in the tree, Klayr leaned close to Roy's ear and whispered, "Do you know how powerful it is?"
Roy could sense the panic in Klayr's eyes.
Klayr looked again at the grass in the distance, where the Petrification Giant Lizard lizard was still slowly crawling.
At this moment, however, they were lurking in the bushes.
Klayr whispered to Roy:
"This is a Petrification Lizard, and it looks like it's already an adult, so I'm sure it's a Tier 2 Magical Beast. If it opens its mouth, it can easily bite through that big tree in front of us. There's no way the two of us can kill a Petrification Lizard. Let's get out of here before it notices us!"
Come to think of it, this should be the second magical beast Roy has ever seen.
The first one was Night Blade Leopard cub from Mrs. Winnie's house, so cute and cuddly, posing absolutely no threat...
Klayr stared nervously at the bushes, and Roy realized that the Petrification Lizard hiding in the bushes was actually a Tier 2 Magical Beast.
Although it looked so fat that it could barely move, it was still a magical beast that neither of them could afford to mess with.
Roy's previous casual attempt to touch it was entirely due to being misled by the teachers at the Elf Academy.
Before coming to the Malaga Jungle, more than one teacher in the academy said that the Malaga Jungle was very safe. Apart from poisonous insects and snakes, there were no large wild animals in the entire Malaga Jungle, and there were no wild animals with any offensive capabilities.
This gave Roy the illusion that the fat, oily monitor lizard in front of him might actually be a docile, herbivorous lizard...
It was only when Klayr said it was a Tier 2 Magical Beast that Roy was startled.
Thinking back on my reckless actions, it was practically like handing this giant lizard free food...
"Let's go, I don't want either of us to turn into a pile of lizard poop," Klayr continued.
Roy hid on a branch of a large tree, looked at the monitor lizard in the grass with some doubt, and then quickly flipped open the Parchment Map to confirm that they were still within the Malaga Jungle Malaga Jungle. They were close to the northwestern edge of the jungle, but definitely had not left it.
"How did it end up in the Malaga Jungle?" Roy asked, puzzled.
"Have no idea..."
Klayr responded.
The two were preparing to leave...
Roy looked at the Petrification Giant Lizard with some reluctance and found that the patch of trampled weeds behind the lizard was stained with some nearly dried blood.
The Petrification Giant Lizard lying in the grass had its eyes closed, and its limbs were awkwardly pressed under its body...
Although no wounds were found on the Petrification Lizard, Roy was certain of one thing:
"Klayr, look... it seems to be injured."
"Even if it's injured, it's still a Petrification Lizard, which is a magical beast, a powerful Tier 2 Magical Beast," Klayr reminded Roy.
"How about we wait a little longer..." Roy said to Klayr, not wanting to give up on the giant lizard.
"Then we'll wait here. Maybe it just wants to take a nap!" Klayr agreed, thinking it was worth observing further.
Roy didn't wait in the tree; it was stuffy and hot inside the Malaga Jungle...
Although you can still feel a breeze here, it's warm.
At Roy's suggestion, the two slid down the tree again, circled around several dozen meters, and slowly moved to the back of the Petrification Giant Lizard.
As the two men advanced, one of them would keep watch from a high vantage point while the other dared to move forward, taking turns providing cover until they reached the path the Petrification Lizard were sure to take. On the large patches of trampled weeds, Roy easily found traces of dried blood.
Roy followed the tracks of the Petrification Lizard a little further on, and sure enough, there was still blood along the way, albeit intermittently, but it never stopped...
Moreover, large pools of blood could be found in some of the grassy areas.
"It seems he really is injured, and it hasn't healed yet... I was acting strangely when a magical beast appeared here; I must have been injured before I ran into the Malaga Jungle," Roy said to Klayr, dropping the blade of grass he was holding.
"Even if this thing is injured, it's still beyond our ability to handle!" Klayr continued to emphasize.
"Why don't we observe it a little longer? A creature this big must have very valuable hides; they might even be enough to make two sets of leather armor!" Roy said.
"Then let's wait a little longer..."
Klayr did not object.
The Petrification Lizard lying in the grass looked as if it were asleep, remaining motionless.
The two of them squatted in the tree for most of the day, taking turns staring at the Petrification Giant Lizard lying in the weeds.
Roy was getting impatient, so he asked Klayr, who was in charge of observing the Petrification Lizard, "Klayr, how is it?"
"It's still lying there, I can't tell if it's dead or alive..." Klayr replied softly, leaning against a slightly higher spot in the tree.
After glancing at the overgrown weeds in the distance, Roy decided to risk getting closer to observe them, and said, "I'll go take a look."
"Don't go..." Klayr didn't want Roy to take the risk, so she quickly shouted.
Roy pulled two Iron Awl from his bag and said to Klayr, "I have a way!"
"Why did you bring this with you?" Klayr asked, looking at the two Iron Awl in Roy's hand.
Actually, what Roy was holding wasn't Iron Awl. Roy held it up to show Klayr before saying:
"I was worried about encountering storms or similar weather, and I was afraid the tent would be blown away by the strong winds, leaving me to sleep outdoors every day. So I brought a guy line and these stakes..."
Klayr noticed the row of barbs on the harpoon and asked Roy, "Is that the spearhead of the Fish Spear?"
"Yes, Abbott and I found it on the Black Pearl. There are several crates, all brand new and sharp enough. I'm going to set a few traps..."
After Roy finished speaking, he nimbly slid down from the tree and carefully walked a few meters towards the Petrification Giant Lizard along the straight path between the tree and the Petrification Giant Lizard. Then he squatted down and buried the tip of his spear at a 45-degree angle towards the lizard in the ground, with half of the spear tip sticking out of the plane. Roy was even worried that if the Petrification Lizard's huge body bumped into the spear tip, it would shove the spear tip into the ground, so he placed a stone under the mud layer. This way, the spear tip would be against the stone, and if the Petrification Lizard bumped into him again, it wouldn't shove the spear tip back into the mud.
Roy laid out four gun tips along the line before climbing the tree.
"Try shooting it with an arrow..." Roy said to Klayr, who was sitting in the tree.
Klayr pulled a Battle Shortbow from her Magic Pouch, nocked an Fletched Arrow, and said to Roy, "As soon as it catches up, we'll jump down and run far away. This thing should be injured; it shouldn't be able to catch us!"
"Okay!" Roy quickly agreed.
Klayr drew her bow and nocked an arrow, which flew with Fletched Arrow 'whoosh' towards the Petrification Lizard's head.
Although the two were more than fifty meters away from the Petrification Lizard, Klayr's archery skills were superb, and the first arrow almost grazed the top of the Petrification Lizard's head.
Immediately afterwards, Klayr fired a second arrow.
This time, the arrow struck the Petrification Lizard squarely below its left eye, embedding itself in its face, yet the Petrification Lizard remained motionless in place.
Roy and Klayr exchanged a glance, both with a hint of surprise in their eyes.
Without Roy needing to say anything, Klayr fired three more arrows at the Petrification Lizard Petrification Lizard, two of which struck its head.
Seeing that the Petrification Lizard remained motionless, Roy and Klayr finally felt relieved.
Roy was ready to slide down from the tree immediately to get closer and take a closer look, but Klayr advocated for playing it safe and pulled Roy back, saying, "Wait a little longer, be patient, it's worth waiting a bit longer."
So the two waited in the tree for another quarter of an hour, and saw that the Petrification Lizard was still lying motionless in the grass.
Roy said:
"It seems he won't wake up again..."
With that, Roy quickly slid down.
Klayr gripped her Battle Shortbow and followed Roy cautiously, on guard.
Roy nervously pushed aside the weeds and finally saw the Petrification Lizard lying a few meters away. Although he couldn't feel its breathing and there were three Fletched Arrow stuck in its head, Roy still found a fist-sized rock on the ground and threw it at the Petrification Lizard's head.
'Clang'
The thrown stone hit the Petrification Lizard's head precisely, but the Petrification Lizard remained motionless in place.
Only then did Roy feel completely relieved. He waded through the weeds to the side of the Petrification Lizard, and saw that there was a pool of blood where it had been lying.
This Petrification Lizard had been dead for a long time.
Roy untied a bundle of rope from his body, intending to tie up the Petrification Lizard and drag it to the base of the big tree...
Although they tied the Petrification Lizard's head with a rope, the Petrification Lizard was too heavy; he and Klayr simply couldn't move it.
