Even so, most Half-Elf officers worried that the Gray Dwarf Bandits would realize their numbers were under ten thousand. If a riot broke out, the Mine Guard Regiment could be overwhelmed in a single wave.
The fifteen Magic Airships no longer docked at the harbor. Instead, they hovered over Kui Island day and night. It was better to burn some Magic Crystal Stones every day than let them become targets for the Gray Dwarf Bandits.
The salvage operation for ships at Kui Island Dock had also been temporarily halted. The four Three-Masted Sailboats recovered from the sea had all been beached on the shore.
The Gray Dwarves had built a row of catapults on the beach, more than forty in total. Each one stood around ten meters tall and was assembled from squared timbers and metal fittings. A bundle of stones sat on one side; when it dropped from a height, it launched the stone ball on the other end. If it hit a ship on the sea surface, it could cause considerable damage—but that was assuming it could actually hit one.
